It was 1981 and I was a college freshman.
Billy Graham was coming to Reno – the Biggest Little City in World. At the time it was one fo the few places where you could gamble, carry open containers on the street. Just outside of town there were legal brothels.
The city would never be the same. For four nights he preached to a overfilled auditorium.
I invited friends and people from my dorm. I think there were nine of us who loaded up in my 1956 Chevy Wagon.
I remember it was a packed house.
The songs were a mix of old hymns and some of the newer music we were singing on campus with guitars.
And Leon Patillo was the guest singer.
Billy preached. His voice booming, echoing across the packed arena.
And this I’ll always remember. “You Must Be Born Again. There is no other way to heaven. There is no other way to life.”
At theend thousands went forward, including two of my friends
He impacted a generation. He impacted me.
