We realize that not all readers of this blog listen – or even appreciate – any kind of music that calls itself “heavy metal.” Music divides far more often than it unites.
But we are intrigued by the story of Brian Welch, formerly of the band KORN.
The band, if you don’t know, is one of the hardest bands out there, freely singing about sex and drugs and a very angry world. Their music is “dark, explicit and disturbing.”
Imagine the surprise when the dread-locked, hollow-eyed Welch, known as “Head,” found Jesus in 2004. He soon left the band. His baptism was in the Jordan River – and it was a very public event, because he wanted to show that his conversion was “real.” He told BeliefNet “ when I gave my life to God, I felt like He gave me the courage to say no to my rock-star dream, to say no to my own desires.”
He has written a book and released an album, called “Save me From Myself.”
How did this happen?
The process started when a fan sent him an email with this verse:
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matt. 11:28.”
The Red Letter power of the Word of God can still change lives – as evidenced by this amazing conversion.
That gives hope. It can change your coworkers life.
And your neighbor’s.
And your friend’s.
And your family.
And you.
What do you think? Have you been ‘saved from yourself.’ If so, why do we think some people are so ‘unreachable?” Comment here.
