GOP candidate and presidential hopeful Donald Trump is no stranger to making his beliefs known. In the last year, the business tycoon and television personality has garnered attention and support from American conservatives in significant numbers.

Trump’s strong opinions on tax reform, immigration reform and Second Amendment rights have been at the forefront of his campaign. It is his personal beliefs, however, that seem to bring in Trump supporters across demographic and state lines as well. Trump is a Presbyterian, a Christian denomination and branch of Reformed Protestantism with origins traced to the British Isle.

Presbyterianism theology emphasizes the sovereignty of God, the authority of the Scriptures and the necessity of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Trump, who attended First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens according to an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in 2012, has always been proud of his faith, identifying as “a believer” throughout his life.

Trump’s family background further solidifies his Christian faith – his grandmother’s maiden name was “Christ”. The presidential hopeful is also an avid Bible collector and noted in the same CBN interview that he keeps them all “in a very nice place”.

In addition, Trump’s Presbyterian faith has added to the foundation for his presidential candidacy by presenting a conservative, reformed platform that Americans are responding to in droves. As he continues to strive for the presidency, Trump’s faith is never too far outside of the spotlight.

“I think religion is a wonderful thing,” Trump told CBN. “I think my religion is a wonderful religion.”
