Deily recently traveled to the 2016 annual convention of the Religion Communicators Council in New York City. Founded in 1929, the RCC, originally the Religion Publicity Council, is the oldest PR communications organization in the United States. The convention consisted of three full days of plenaries, panels, and workshops on a wide array of topics relevant to religious communicators. Below are some of our highlights.
Day One- The Interchurch Center aka the “God Box”

Terrell Jermaine Starr, freelance journalist in New York City, Rev. Jacques Andre DeGraff, member of the pastoral staff at Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem, Rev. Que English, senior pastor at Bronx Christian Fellowship Church, and Dr. Frederick Harris, professor of political science and Director of the Center on African-American Politics and Society, served as members of a plenary panel discussing “Election Year and Beyond: Social and Political Activism in the City’s Black Churches” at RCC 2016.

Day Three- The Church Center for the U.N.

Caterina Tino, partnerships specialist for UNICEF Civil Society Partnerships in New York; Claus Grue, communication consultant at the World Council of Churches in Geneva; and Dr. Olusimbo Ige, executive director of the Global Health unit of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, co-led the workshop on “Humanitarian and faith-based organizations link arms to protect vulnerable women and children” at RCC 2016.

Rudelmar Bueno de Faria, World Council of Churches representative to the United Nations and Coordinator of the UN Ecumenical Office in New York, Rev. Dr. Karin Achtelstetter, General Secretary of World Association for Christian Communications, Dr. Azza Karam, Senior Advisor on Culture and Social Development at the United Nations Population Fund, and Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Dean Pallant, Director of the Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Commission served as members of the United Nations Panel discussing “What’s Faith Got To Do With It?: Faith Organizations, the UN, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” at RCC 2016.
