Mom Rallying Us Around a Family Title of Liberty

Mom Rallying Us Around a Family Title of Liberty

Do you have a Family Title of Liberty?

I’m really impressed at the impact Come Follow Me can have on multi-generations and how it reminds me that I’m always my parents’ child. Isn’t that awesome? My mom shares her insights with us, her grown children, and invites us to growth and introspection.

This week, mom shared an impassioned plea for us to regroup as needed and come together as a family to prepare for the last days.  I thought I’d share it here for anyone who would like to join her challenge in creating something for your family, a Family Title of Liberty, to represent your “resolve to follow Christ until He comes again.”  We’re all family, after all. If you’ve already created something like a Family Title of Liberty, please share it in the comments!

Family Title of Liberty

From Mom: Creating a Family Title of Liberty

Dear Family,

This week’s Come Follow Me study chapters have gotten me thinking about something I’d like to share with you! Especially Alma 46! Also, I have to smile every time I think of Asher’s excitement for the St. George reunion! Yesterday he told me he just couldn’t wait for it because he wanted to play in that swimming pool! I’m excited for it too! I not only visualized him in the pool, but I saw him with lots of cousins in the sports court playing basketball, or volleyball, or out on the lawn playing soccer and even croquet. (Does anyone have a croquet set? We don’t anymore.)

I want to present to you a Challenge! or a Contest! or a Request!

I’d love to have as many as possible participate, old and young, but I will ask that there be AT LEAST one entry per family to help us come up with something like Moroni’s Title of Liberty, not necessarily a flag, but a Bushman family crest, or motto, or standard, or song, or meme, or picture or something we can all agree on that will represent our unified resolve to follow Christ until He comes again. Something that will bind us together so that as a family we can show the Lord we’re on His side during these winding up years of turmoil and tribulation.

I hope you can catch the vision and enthusiastically explain the idea to your family and to get your creativity flowing.

As in Alma 46:13 Moroni bowed himself to the earth and prayed to God for the blessings of liberty, after rending his coat and writing on it, I can see us bowing to the earth to pray for safety and protection through these times, for greater companionship of the Holy Ghost so we can receive our own revelations, develop strength and discernment, follow the Prophet, help in Gathering Israel, avoid deception and evil, keep from temptations, etc.

I also liked what the people did when Moroni told them about the title of liberty, in verse 21, “they came running together, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord, and if they should transgress and be ashamed to take upon them the name of Christ, they would face dire consequences! We could define our own covenant and decide on our own appropriate consequence too, or remind ourselves of the sweet consequences of applying Christ’s atonement or the bitter consequences of setting it aside.

Verse 23 certainly applies to us: We are a remnant of the seed of Joseph, and now “let us remember to keep the commandments of God, or our garments shall be rent by our brethren and we be cast into prison, or be sold, or be slain.”

Please start thinking about this and let me know if you think it will be good to do it or if you have any questions or suggestions, and especially any inspiration you get from these scriptures.

Love,

Mom
