Listen to The Daily Article Podcast, then subscribe. Benjamin Watson played sixteen seasons in the National Football League, competing in a Super Bowl and being named to the Pro Bowl as a tight end. In 2018, he received the Bart Starr Award for outstanding character, integrity, and leadership on and off the field. (This is the only award other than the Pro Bowl voted on by all the players.) Now he is tackling something most athletes would not: the issue... Read more

I need to begin today’s Daily Article with an admission: I will not see the movie I am going to criticize today. Critics of what I am about to say will note that fact. But I doubt they would say that I need to contract cancer to warn you not to contract cancer. The film Cuties is currently available on Netflix. The streaming service describes the movie this way: “Eleven-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family’s traditions when... Read more

Yesterday, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain became only the third and fourth Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, following Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. President Trump called the agreement “the dawn of a new Middle East.” I watched with great gratitude the signing ceremony televised from the White House. Its significance led me to shift the subject I intended to address today to tomorrow’s article so I could address this historic event.  After traveling to... Read more

The postcard has a green stamp of George Washington priced at one cent. Its front displays a Halloween cartoon; its back contains a message written in cursive. It was delivered to its address last week. However, it was postmarked October 29, 1920.  According to the New York Times, it’s not clear where the postcard has been all this time or why it took so long to reach its address. A Postal Service spokesman explained that such incidents typically occur when... Read more

At least thirty-five people have died in West Coast wildfires as of this morning. We are watching apocalyptic images of scorched trees, buildings reduced to rubble, and burned and blackened cars. The fires have produced a smoke cloud that covers almost a million square miles and has traveled 1,300 miles. Oregon officials are bracing for a “mass fatality incident” after wildfires in their state have burned over one million acres. One story is especially heartbreaking: a thirteen-year-old victim was found... Read more

This day will always be marked by the same image: the Twin Towers are burning, smoke spiraling into the clear blue sky over Manhattan, and the world as we know it is about to change forever. Two months after that horrific morning in 2001, President George W. Bush stated: “Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every... Read more

Nick Slater, age forty-six, was fatally mauled Tuesday off a beach protected by shark netting. His death is only the second fatal shark attack at one of the eighty-five beaches in Queensland, Australia, that have been protected by nets and drum lines since 1962. Sharks can swim under and around the nets, which is apparently what happened this week. In other news, a dentist in New York City is seeing an epidemic of cracked teeth, sometimes six in a day.... Read more

The best player of his generation has been recognized as one of the best people in sports. Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout has been named the American League’s Most Valuable Player three times and is an eight-time All-Star. Wikipedia lists twenty-eight different awards and recognitions he has received. He has been likened to baseball immortals Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle.  His team lost to my hometown Texas Rangers last night, but Trout had two hits in the game.... Read more

A gender reveal party sparked a wildfire that has grown to nearly ten thousand acres in California as of this morning. A woman died over the weekend while hiking amid a record-setting heatwave in the state. And at least 147 COVID-19 cases have been linked to a wedding reception in Maine. In the midst of all the bad news, one Christian celebrity wants to focus on the good news.  Candace Cameron Bure was asked recently if she would ever reprise... Read more

Aaron Wiley and his wife Erleigh went to his favorite jeweler in May to get her diamond necklace upgraded. Their jeweler, Jennifer Pratt of JPratt Designs, helped them select a new motif for her necklace. The next day, Jennifer offered them something else: her kidney. During their design appointment, she asked Aaron if he would like a glass of water. Erleigh said, “He can’t have any more water—he’s on dialysis and has to restrict his intake.” She had donated a... Read more
