Regardless of what you think of Trump, there was some hope he would live up to his campaign promises to end “Biden’s” wars.
NB: Though he continues to assert that they are Biden’s wars, they are now his. He has had the power to stop them by merely cutting off the flow of arms.
Trump will end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours
He campaigned with the boast that he could end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Sadly, more than eight months into his term, that has yet to happen. Could it be that there are powers in play that even Trump can’t overcome?
The war on Gaza has continued till now
The war on Gaza has proven to be equally challenging to end. Why? Well, it could very well be that even Trump can’t stop the forces in power in the US that support Netanyahu and his band of right-wing extremists (especially Ben Gvir and Smotrich).
In fact, it is somewhat surprising that Trump was able to broker this deal. Could it be that Trump defied those who are pressing him to support Israel at all costs because he needed it to earn his coveted Nobel Prize?
The pro-Israel influence on Trump
That Trump has caved to his pro-Israel supporters over the past eight months has been evident. He has surrounded himself with Christian Zionists like Rubio and Hegseth. Most notably, he appointed noted Christian Zionist Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel.
Why peace now?
What then accounts for the sudden pressure on Israel to assent to a deal?
I suspect that Trump’s demands for a peace deal now derive from his insatiable desire for the Nobel Peace Prize, which may well have been awarded by the time you read this post.
Trump has failed so far in Ukraine. But ending the siege on Gaza may well be the linchpin for his bid to earn the coveted Nobel Peace Prize.
What will happen in Gaza if he wins?
This raises the question: what will he do if he wins it? Will he revert to capitulating to his pro Zionist supporters?
If the last eight months are any indication, I suspect he will. What does this mean for a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine? Well, I suspect that it will not be good.
NB: I will be live on YouTube tonight (Oct 10, 2025) at 5:00 pm PST to share information on the long-term viability of peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
