For IBM, India is a major country of operations.. this was his third visit in last two years.
The chief of Big Blue is in the country, quietly. As the Chairman & CEO of IBM, the largest global IT firm, Samuel J. Palmisano, comes calling on India barely two weeks after the CEO of Cisco, John Chambers, made his second visit in the recent times.
Significantly, this is Palmisano’s third India visit since May 2003. The IBM honcho began his low-key, four-day India visit from Bangalore on Tuesday and also has New Delhi on his itinerary.
Palmisano will be meeting senior government officials, key clients and address IBM India employees during the visit, an IBM official said.
At a luncheon meeting with clients in Bangalore on Wednesday, Palmisano is said to have shared his vision for the hardware and the software sectors. He is also said to have shared his thoughts on the future plans for key markets, India and China ranking high among them.
Palmisano also visited the newly launched Global Service Delivery Centre of IBM India. The GSDC provides clients with command centre services, data centre and IT help desk services. The centre enables clients to tap into virtually limitless computing power on demand, while paying for it on a per-usage basis.
