– Images from France: Rioting and Arson

On a sixth night of rioting in Paris, violence spread from the initial flashpoint of Clichy-sous-Bois into a host of other areas in the north and east of the city.

Scores of vehicles were burned by angry youths, most from disaffected north African communities.

The rioting began on 27 October when two boys died in Clichy, electrocuted at an electricity sub-station as – residents say – they fled from police. The police deny this.

The deaths and subsequent violence prompted residents to march through the area to call for calm.
