Injections cannot easily penetrate fat backsides…. and we needed RESEARCH to tell us this?

Injections may not work on some patients because their bottoms are too big, doctors have warned.
They found that needles cannot penetrate the layers of bottom fat of many patients, particularly women.

Many vaccines and other medications are administered by a jab in the rear. To be effective, the drug has to be injected into the underlying muscle.

Dr Victoria Chan, who led the research at the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, said: “Our study has demonstrated that a majority of people, especially women, are not getting the proper dosage from injections to the buttocks.

“There is no question that obesity is the underlying cause. We have identified a new problem related, in part, to the increasing amount of fat in patients’ buttocks.”

Dr Chan’s team recruited 50 male and female patients, aged 21 to 87, who were due to have computed tomography (CT) scans of the abdomen and pelvis.

Before the examinations the patients had a small air bubble injected into their buttocks using a standard-sized needle.
