– Riots and Arson hits Paris suburb

Its difficult to fathom that such riots and arson could break out in a Western country! But here it is in France!

Rioting youths in Paris suburbs have burned cars and fought police for the seventh consecutive night.

At least 40 vehicles were destroyed in the northern Seine-Saint-Denis region, where 15 people were arrested.

In Aulnay-sous-Bois, gangs briefly besieged a police station, while violence also flared in western Paris.

Government ministers have held crisis talks and President Jacques Chirac has appealed for calm. Rioting began after two teenage boys died a week ago.

The boys, aged 15 and 17, were electrocuted at an electricity sub-station. Local people say they were fleeing police, which authorities deny.

Wednesday night’s violence erupted in nine areas across the Paris department of Seine-Saint-Denis, home to largely poor north African communities.
