Indibloggies Poll – my first time … and good reviews

When I started blogging it was basically to stop clogging the emails of my friends with my thoughts and views and just post it out there with the hope that someone – probably a larger audience will start reading me! So, I started at desh kapoor – after my own name.. on blogspot. That platform was not what I could see surviving with me for very long.. so I went to MovableType and then to b2e … and when I thought that what I required was more like a CMS to get all my needs fulfilled – if you have to hit someone.. let it be a full bloody tank – I moved to Drupal as my preferred platform!

And when my url deshkapoor.org was ported into drupal.. I realized that people were registering themselves on my blog.. and so I decided that it was better to make it more open and neutral. So, Drishtikone was born! That was in late 2005. Today, almost one and a half years since, the total monthly hits are over a 100k, and some >1000 RSS subscribers and little over 92 registered users!

This is the first year I was entered into Indibloggies. And I hope some people are voting for me 🙂 At least two fellow bloggers have shared openly their thoughts on the nominations in the short list.. and it is interesting that for the "Indiblog of the year" category.. both have given Drishtikone good reviews.

One, Shadows, thinks that Drishtikone should have been in the Best Design blog as well.. and Bachodi has shared that he did vote for Drishtikone on that category. Thank you guys!

If you wanted to help me with some encouragement and if you do genuinely like this blog.. please do vote for Drishtikone at the Indibloggies .. all you have to do is the following (remember 20th february – Tuesday .. Indian time?? .. is the LAST deadline for voting!)

1. Click on the poll URL – it will take you to a form. Fill it with your name (first and last) and email.. if you have a website of your own you may fill it otherwise you can leave the last field blank.

2. Go to your email that you put in the form and look for email from Debashish. It will have a link. Click on it.

3. The email link will take you to a survey page.. just hit "next" … you will come to the main selection page. Select the best blogs there in all the categories. (Drishtikone is in the first … "Indiblog of the year" category towards the end).

4. Click next and it will have the vernacular blogs.. you may choose the ones you like or move on.. and finally click on submit button.

I am not sure where Drishtikone will end up this year… but I am happy that some people will at least see it who may not have earlier. And if through this I can meet some folks who can enrich my life and hopefully me theirs .. I will be very happy.

My blogging has brought me in touch with very interesting people.. like Anuj Dhar (journo who is fighting to bring out the truth on Netaji Subash Bose); good folks from Intentblog (where my words at least were sometimes read by the likes of Shekhar Kapur and Deepak Chopra.. and many other fellow commenters!!); and other fellow bloggers like Atanu and Gautam! It has been the most rewarding experience of my life.

Like when a close friend asked me if I was making any money from Drishtikone to make it worthwhile.. my reply was.. "It is for my creative expression.. if I do not express.. I will die – at least intellectually!!".
