Android Tablets have almost caught up with iPad; 50% Android devices from US; Kindle Fire most popular

Android has made big gains in the Tablet area and is breathing down the neck of iPad and is likely to overtake Apple sometime this year – 2013!

Android tablets have nearly caught up to iPad devices as the world’s most popular tablet platform, and some project that they may even overtake iPads later this year. According to new research from app analytics company Localytics, the U.S., and specifically Amazon, should take the most credit for that trend: some 59% of all Android tablet usage came from the U.S., with over half of that attributed to Kindle Fire and Fire HD tablets, working out to a 33% share. We have talked before what proliferation of Android does for Google.  It is not necessary for Google to have its own devices as long as it has enough devices with the Android OS, because it makes money off of advertising which is tied to its Search and other products.
