Violence: Bible vs Gita or Budhha-Jesus vs Krishna

The approach to Violence in Bible (and that of Jesus and Buddha) and in Gita (and that of Krishna) are very different.

Context-less Non-Violence is not a Virtue!

While Krishna seems to be exhorting Arjuna to a war and violence.. Jesus and Buddha could not condone violence under ANY circumstances!

Buddha/Jesus paradigm of Violence:

Stems from the “Kingdom of Heaven is in you” Where you is arguably the entire creation. SO if the King or God is in EVERYTHING then how can I kill or harm any other creation – that is what is intended in “Thou Shall Not Kill”

Krishna (Gita) paradigm of Violence:

Gita, on the other hand, views it differently! Krishna argues about the dichotomy of Body and Soul. Arjuna was stressed because he thought he is “killing” his enemy camp warriors. Krishna argued – YOU CANNOT! What you are killing is the BODY.. and Body is NOT the truth! The truth is the soul… and it cannot be harmed or killed or hurt or poked! It was never born and will never die!

Hence the difference between the two paradigms is:

You SHOULD NOT KILL vs You CANNOT KILL!

So while Budhha and Jesus did confuse body with soul in this instance (although they understood the difference!)… Krishna did set them apart in practice and theory!!

That does not solve the question though.. is Violence right or wrong! and if it is right at times.. when??

Now, this also brings up another question – what is absolute .. the Value/Moral of non-violence… or the Value/Moral of Duty?? What is more sustaining or neutral??

Where should my loyalty lie – on the plane of Morals/Values or on the plane of duty and love?
