These days businesses are trying new ways to stand out. In this day and age of Google search - a search engine which is a complete marketing tool in itself (what with $500/hr SEO experts trying to tell you how to break the "Google Code").. it is important that the marketers use more and more innovative techniques. Here is one. This is a business card which shows the Google search and the company's address and where it will show up when searched for a particular key word! Read more

For success many things are important. Intelligence or talent cannot and does not take people to the top or the most satisfying life... honesty of effort and sincerity does. In this day and age of scandals, scams and economic crash - with few people who have made all the money while the common people have been left with large holes in their wealth, it is almost natural for everyone to believe that deceit takes you to riches. It might. But the summit might be very short lived and not much to enjoy there. So here are 15 laws of success from the old classic by Napolean Hill, an author that kids my generation grew up reading - "The Law of Success". Worth taking note of each and every law. You might just print this thing out! Have a Definite Chief Aim: Do away with aimlessness and choose - fix your heart on - upon a definite, clear goal in life. Self Confidence: Learn to fight your fears (poverty, Ill Health, Old age, Criticism, Loss of love of Someone, Death) and stay away from egotism. Habit of Saving: Distribute your income systematically so that a definite portion of it can gradually accumulate and multiply - and result in source of personal power. Read more

Storing and sharing documents is a major issue.. isn't it? Specially when you have large document or files (audio) that you would love to share with your friends but cannot. I wanted to list some suggestions that I feel are effective and cost effective. Yahoo Messenger: Yahoo messenger is by far the best way to share large documents easily with friends. It allows sharing of 2 GB! Now, that is huge. Instead of sending a file on emails - and no one really allows that much of file sharing, Yahoo Messenger could be useful. Of course, in this case, you cannot store the files - just share them on the fly. Caveat: You and the person you are sharing the file with should have the same Yahoo messenger version. Bluehost site: Now many people want to host files or backup their files. No one really provides "Unlimited Storage". But here is a site host that provides it for very cheap - Bluehost. If you want to host a site then this is a great place, since it not only cheap ($6.95/month) but it also offers one of the best hosting features. For example: 1. Simplescripts: This is available via cpanel. Using Simplescripts you can install a lot of blogging/CMS/Calendar/Ecommerce etc Open Source packages for free. And even better than a competing service - Fantastico (also available through cpanel at bluehost) you can choose the version of your software. For example, Drupal - the underlying CMS that I use for Drishtikone is now in its version 6.x. However, most of the modules and themes are still for 5.x. It will take time for the development of the modules for 6.x to catch up. I don't have the time if I am creating a new site. So, I just choose the latest stable 5.x version and go with it. Fantastico, on the other hand, just installs the latest version (6.x in this case). Read more

Read more

Our leaders - the Prime Ministers and Presidents - live in houses and mansions which are valued to high that a normal person can not even of - in fact these places are so expensive and extravagant which makes one wonders, if its worth to have such people in there? Given their talent and what they offer.. one wonders... except for a few.. the rest probably don't deserve such accomodation! India's Accomodation: Rashtrapati Bhawan: A building which took 17 years to construct (1912 to 1929) has 4 floors and has been built from 700 million bricks and 3 million cubic feet of stone. Steel is almost non-existent in the building. Occupant = 1 (with family)! Its worth? Well, it ranges from Rs 4000 crores ($1 billion) to Rs 16,000 crores ($4 billion). The President's House of India has nine tennis courts, a polo ground, a 14-hole golf course and a cricket field. It is enconsed in spectacular surroundings: West - Mughal Gardens on 13 acres with canals, fountains and terraces; East - Jaipur column of red sandstone with a bronze lotus and glass star of India. Here it is on Google Satellite map. [1] [2] Read more

People are making guesses on how long the "recession" will last - end of this year? or maybe 6 months? And I often think that we probably have no clue! Recorded history has never seen such a mess: - the intertwined global economies.. all hurtling down at the same time - over-leveraged banking systems (somewhere as much as 20 times! - the regular and the logical system of "Central banks being the bankers of the last resort seem useless!) - countries going bankrupt [Iceland (!), Pakistan (?), Latvia, Bulgaria?, Russia (?)] Now, comes news from two of the most important states in the US - California and New York. California is economically the most important state in the country! If it was an independent country, it would have been the 10th largest economy in the world.. that's how important it is to the US and indeed the world. Read more

"Now, drink your milk Sonu!" shouted Reema. Sonu didn't quite like milk so he was pushing it away. Angry at his stubborn-ness she slapped Sonu loud and hard. Uma was standing near the door - she had come to ask for some sugar as usual - and was aghast. "Reema, he is handicapped and still you don’t spare him?" "But that is why he needs the milk!" Reema said in tears. "This milk is not cheap… you know that! It is only for him… He needs the strength in his legs.." "Haan… that's true.. What does the doctor say?" Uma enquired. "What will he say.. Its polio.. Its for life now.. " Reema said matter-of-factly.. "but Guruji is coming next Sunday.. I will make sure we meet him after his Satsang, so he can bless Sonu. His love is very healing.. I am sure he will heal Sonu also." Hope was the eternal medicine known to mankind… and it often found its most potent culmination in the faith in divinity, irrespective of its deliverance. "What is it about the Guruji that takes you all there?" Uma enquired. She was a Tamilian who had been living in Mumbai for a long time. The Chawl complexes make interesting neighbors. Reema was from UP. Read more

All you need to know about Music Awards is, critics claim, that Mozart never won even ONE! So, sometimes the awards lose their credibility for not being awarded to the best in the play.. for example, the Nobel Peace Prize that was never given to Gandhi! But some prizes lose their sheen for being awarded to thoroughly undeserving candidates of a genre. Golden Globes to Slumdog Millionaire is one such example. Slumdog Millionaire is a recent rage. It has won 4 Golden Globes including the "Best Drama", Best Musical Score, and Best Screenplay. I saw Slumdog Millionaire last night. Honestly, I felt cheated... BIG TIME! Its biggest strength - and probably the only - is its editing. The rest is average. Story: The story in inherently flawed. I don't know of any schools in slums that teach English and specially about the Three Musketeers. It is also highly unlikely that a person who is participating in a game show on TV would be picked up by the police and tortured over night. And most hosts are fairly good.. specially in the public! I have yet to see a single Reality show host who has a mean streak - at least in the public, so I am not sure who exactly was Anil Kapoor playing?? Somehow, midway in the movie you realize that the Director and the Story-writer is somehow obsessed with India's poverty. Most of the things shown in the movie are real. And there is nothing to hide about that. But somehow the story just cannot come out the grime and crime! The Hero somehow keeps switching between an uneducated and orphaned kid from the worst of Indian slums to a kid conversing freely and fluently with Americans in American English! Sometimes you wonder if the story-writer could make such fantastic leap of faith or was it the Director? Read more

Keeping track of things is one of the great uses internet has been put to. And people keep coming up with more and more interesting stuff all the time. Here is one application that I could not have thought about. It is one of the most innovative ways to "stay out of trouble". 🙂 PMSBuddy helps you to track the "monthly cycle" of the women in your lives so you can understand why someone is irritable for no apparent reason whatsoever. According to American Academy of Family Physicians, three main symptoms during the menstruation period are irritability, tension, and dysphoria (unhappiness).
