Something is wrong with today's America! Christian fundamentalist are bent upon destroying its very fabric and strength! Read below The minister of a church that dismissed a female Sunday School teacher after adopting what it called a literal interpretation of the Bible says a woman can perform any job -- outside of the church. The First Baptist Church dismissed Mary Lambert on August 9 with a letter explaining that the church had adopted an interpretation that prohibits women from teaching men. She had taught there for 54 years. Read more

The vegetarianism is not a new phenomenon! It was there for thousands of years in India. This is a book by Tristram Stuart called "The Bloodless Revolution: Radical Vegetarians and the Discovery of India" where he talks of how the discovery of India brought the West in touch with the benefits of vegetarianism!! Although the word "vegetarian" was not coined until the 1840s, as long ago as the sixth century BC Pythagoras propounded a theory of immortality that entailed the transmigration of the soul between living creatures “ and thus the immorality of eating the flesh of any of them. Read more

IT is obvious that things are a changing in the Indian society... and that too in hitherto smaller or Tier 2 cities. But for Ahmedabad to have the first immigrant to Canada on basis of lesbian conjugal partner visa is indeed an amazing revelation! Sexual preference helped a 29-year-old woman from the city secure a permanent resident (PR) visa to Canada. The lesbian woman migrated earlier this week after she was sponsored by her girlfriend in Canada, who declared her as conjugal partner. "She is probably the first first-ever lesbian from the country to immigrate to Canada as a conjugal partner," immigration consultant Lalit Advani, who assisted the girl in securing the resident visa, told TOI. Read more

The Qawwali below is one of my favorites! It teaches so much that it is tough to find another place where so much has been brought together in one place! What strikes me most is the skepticism of the poet! Poet's name is Naaz Khialvi. Something about him: Real Name Muhammad Siddique, Takhalus Naaz and known as Naz Khialvi due to reason that he belongs to a village named as "Khiaali". Khiaali is about 5 Km away from Tandlianwala which is tehsil of Distric Faisalabad. Tandlianwala is 60 miles aways from Faisalabad. Naaz Khialvi is doing Urdu and Punjaabi poetry since last 30 years (aprox). As he bolongs to a remote area, therefore he got less chances to come in lime light. His only source of income is a punjabi radio program "sandhal Dharti" which he is hosting since many years. The program is being broadcasted from Radio Faisalabad. Naaz sahib is of 55 years age (aprox) but he is still unmarried. His poetry has reached the level of "miraaaj" but the media is in control. "Tum Ik Gorakh Dhanda hoo" was just a routine poetry for Naaz shaib, but became special due to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Nusrat sahib belongs to Faisalabad and he had relations with radio people also. Somebody told him about Naaz sahib and he met Naaz sahib and requested personaly to write a qavaali for him. Naaz sahib did it for very little amount of money for Nusrat . How much revenue this qavali has earned? No body knows, it was a record breaking selling album. Same way Ata Ullah Niazi sung two cassettes comprising poetry of Naaz shaib. Both the cassettes were super hit. Naaz sahib asked Niazi that why he sung his poetry without his permission. In reply Niazi gave about 4000 rupees to Naaz sahib and he was more than happy. Kabhi Yahaan Tumhein Dhonda, Kabhi Wahaan Pohncha Tumhari Deed Ki Khaatir Kahan Kahan Pohcha Ghareeb Mit Ga'ay, Pamaal Ho Gaye Laikin Kisi Talak Na Tera Aaj Tak Nishaan Pohncha Ho Bhi Nahi Aur Her Jaa Ho Ho Bhi Nahi Aur Her Ja Ho Tum Ek Gorakh Dhanda Ho Read more

Remember the ubiquitous Post Office in India? Where the postman is found even in the remotest village on his bicycle peddling letters to every nook and corner of India? Well, that same Post department despite its inefficiencies is ready for a make over! It now wants to start a bank! Not that it is totally new for them.. we do have Postal Savings Schemes where people invest and get some good returns. The only problem is the hassle in all of that due to rampant corruption. I do remember you actually had to pay the clerk to get your OWN money back!!! My experience of the normal Indian banks is to bad that it would require a lot of persuading to even go near the Postal Bank of India!! Read more

Often, those who have 'achieved' (or think they have) something are wont to teach the world and somehow married to the urge of "persuasion". This is true of Enlightened Prophets and Buddhas throughout history. There is writer of a column "Engines of our Ingenuity" Professor John Lienhard at the University of Houston whose morning short discourses are my favorite meditation thoughts.. writes how the Persuaders in the history have been the fastest to embrace new technology as well as methods to propogate their word. Quite like - if you look closely and to the chagrin of the Enlightened - the Porn and flesh business! He starts in this article by showing how illustration - and caricatures at that - are used to explain religious thougths and tenets from Bible... and then how evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson used radio broadcast in 1924 to relay her message! As the illustration here explains the message of patience and let the natural process take care of the world itself as opposed to trying to rage against someone whom you are trying to persuade and bring over is interesting in the context of how the Missionaries and in fact many Gurus conduct themselves! It seems that if anything the Evangelist have hardly had the time to read and indeed understand Jesus' message. But then those who are so busy trying to "take the message to others" can hardly be expected to have the time - or the inclination - to first imbibe it in their lives and being! Evolution is the basic principle of creation. Whatever is created will evolve and ultimately be destroyed. Involution and intelligence in the seed IS the cause of Evolution .... and Evolution pre-supposes Intelligence of the seed. That is a verity that is somehow disregarded and forgotten by the over-zealous Enlightened Buddhas. As if the Intelligence that led their evolution was eclectic in its basic nature and partial in its approach! How come the patience that nature was rewarded for in Buddhas evolution would somehow go unrewarded in case of those He wanted to uplift? Patient never forget that the beginning of Evolution is inherent in every sub-atomic building block of creation as its intelligence. Read more

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment Dear Group Members, I want to share my article with you. This is about the link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature. Thank you, Sushil Yadav Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment. Read more

Many times I have said with conviction on many forums that in my eyes there is NO difference between ISI (Pak Intelligence), Pak Army, Kashmiri terrorists and Al Qaeda was all really just one big organization - kind of like an octopus with tentacles!  The Indian Airlines hijacking proved that beyond any doubt.. and this piece does that really well too!  The terror landscape is all too clear.. isnt it? Pakistani officials confirmed that Mr. Rauf, a British citizen born in Pakistan, returned from Britain to settle in Bahawalpur in 2002 and that he married and had children there. Bahawalpur is a small town in southern Punjab, far from Mirpur, in Pakistani-administered Kashmir, the town Mr. Rauf’s family comes from. Read more
