Infosys seems to be on a land buying spree - which has led our "social activists" who get bored doing nothing to come out and start questioning their land buying - calling it "land grabbing"!  Infosys, it seems already has 4000 acres of land across the country... and now it buy be going for a huge parcels in future. How many acres of land does Infosys own? The company declined to reveal the figure, saying it is "in the silent period before the quarter results." But rough estimates -- provided by sources at Bangalore-based builder Sobha Developers, the real development firm that is in charge of executing Infosys campuses -- indicates that the company owns around 4,000 acres of land across India, where it has built, and is continuing to build, huge campuses. Read more

So you thought nothing of the good old Mahindra & Mahindra. right? Well, it seems like M&M may be able to kick the back side of Deere & Co. - the most venerable name in tractors in the US!! Here is one such case from Businessweek's latest article: But rather than buy an American-made John Deere or New Holland, brands he grew up with, Lucenberg chose a shiny red Mahindra 5500 made by India's Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. "I have been around equipment all my life," says Lucenberg, who also used the tractor to earn extra money clearing destroyed homes along the Gulf Coast. But for $27,000, complete with a front loader, the 54-hp Mahindra "is by far the best for the money. It has more power and heavier steel," Lucenberg says. "When you lock it into four-wheel drive, you can move 3,000 pounds like nothing. That thing's an animal." The local dealership in nearby Saucier, Miss. (population 1,300), figures it has sold 300 Mahindras in the past four months. Read more

Read these statements - who do you think is saying these? Here this guy is asking why the Muslim leaders and the celebrities did not come out to condemn the Jehadi Islam and also collect moneys for the displaced Kashmiri Hindus? Who is this guy? The biggest one was the recent one -- July 11. I was extremely perturbed because (despite) whatever I had been told by the so-called leaders, those leaders have not come out against these bomb blasts, or the carnage of tourists in Srinagar. They have not come out in support of the Kashmiri Pandits living in refugee camps. Read more

This bastard studied in India, lived there in Mumbai, amongst other citizens and still wanted to kill the people there. His own neighbors! How does an ordinary citizen become Jehadis? Simply by coming in touch? What does this "touch" do? Seemingly re-inforces what is said in Quran in a way that promotes hatred.... blind hatred!! The more important question that troubles my mind is - how do you differentiate between an Ansari who is a "peaceful Indian Citizen" and one who is a "hidden sleeper cell terrorist posing as a peaceful Indian Citizen"?? Can anyone answer this basic question for me please??? On this very basic but simple question, depends the future of peace in this world!! Read more

Here is how it all happens - the Terrorist Training Crash Course! What I cannot fathom is when Indian Intelligence has even the names of the teachers and Professors, then why cannot the Americans force these Jehadis to stop all this! Saudi Arabia is an important stopover for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) men on their way to Pakistan for training. The terrorists -- mostly from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad -- travel on valid visas to Saudi Arabia from where LeT contacts arrange their passage to Pakistan, say intelligence reports on the group and its operation. Read more

Miss Puerto Rico was crowned the new Miss Universe. She beamed as the crown was placed on her head but briefly fainted after a post-pageant news conference. She quickly recovered after being given liquids, said Miss Universe spokeswoman Esther Swan. Rivera, who was wearing a dress made entirely of metal chains, had been standing under hot stage lights for some time when she began to topple over. Someone caught her as she fell. "I always had faith and confidence in myself, but I never knew I was going to win," Rivera, speaking in Spanish from the stage, said in her first remarks as Miss Universe. Here is the new winner: Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza, Miss Puerto Rico 2006, reacts after winning the Miss Universe 2006 pageant on Sunday, July 23, 2006, in Los Angeles. Read more

Here is the familiar cribbing of the Economist about India's Nuke program and the deal with US. Economist, in all the years that I have read it, seems to still harbor a kind of "Raj mentality". Those were the times when the British Government acted like smart asses motivating some enemies or looking the other way while they would beef up while lecturing Indian leaders on the morals of the world! Look at this BS: Nor has India taken on any meaningful new non-proliferation obligations to lighten the blow to the treaty. Read more

Interesting case study on the "Change Management" initiative at John Hopkins. Read carefully the issues that are foremost in the minds of the employees. Reassurance is the main one! About 20 Johns Hopkins IT managers clustered around a Mount Washington conference table recently for one purpose: to learn how to prepare their employees for their user roles and training in the new SAP software system being implemented by HopkinsOne. They angled their faces toward Pam Somers, senior specialist from Organizational Diversity and Development, as she tried to allay their apprehensions: "What do you really want during that 'doom and gloom' feel [as the go-live date approaches]?" she asked. Read more

Are a lot of choices for the consumers always a smart marketing strategy? Apparently yes as the traditionalist American marketing Gurus may have us believe. But research tells us otherwise. Sheena Iyenger, Assoc Prof at Columbia University, did research on the affect of increasing the flavors of jams in a grocery store and its sales figures. Similarly the satisfaction from a choice of the same Godiva chocolate seemed to be more when taken out of a pack of 6 rather than a pack of 30! To explore consumer responses to extensive options, we conducted a field investigation in an upscale grocery store, Draeger's, in Menlo Park, Calif. On two consecutive Saturdays, a tasting booth for Wilkin & Sons exotic jams was arranged. As consumers passed the tasting booth, they encountered a display with either six or 24 different jams. We observed and calculated the number of people who stopped at the tasting booth as well as the number of people who chose to purchase the jam in question. The results are striking. They demonstrate that although extensive choice is initially more enticing than limited choice, limited choice is ultimately more motivating. In fact, 60 percent of the passersby approached the table in the extensive-choice condition, as compared to only 40 percent in the limited-choice condition. However, 30 percent of the consumers who encountered the limited selection actually purchased a jam, whereas only 3 percent of those exposed to the extensive selection made a purchase. Read more
