One fine day, a mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when he spotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car. The mechanic shouted across the garage," Hello Doctor! Please come over here for a minute." The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked argumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing basically the same work? The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic…"Try to do it when the engine is running". courtesy: KSriram Technorati : heart surgeon Read more

You have seen those beggars - poor and haggard and suffering - in Mumbai? Well the entire city's beggars earn a staggering $42 million a year!! Most of this city-wide (actually country-wide) enterprise is a commercial one. There are organized gangs which take these activities by kidnapping and forcing kids and handicapped into begging! Many people come to Mumbai from other cities come everyday and many are kids so there is a regular "pipeline" of recruits for them. Sad but staggering!! Read more

When I worked at Bose on a project, I was told by the employees there about this product which was an amazing improvement on the current technology! It seems the demos would involve placing a glass of water on the driver's deck and the exercise was to take the car over the road bumps. The results were smashing! Amar Bose is, in any case, a genius!! For nearly 25 years, engineers at Massachusetts-based Bose Corp., a famed maker of stereo speakers and other audio equipment, quietly toyed with a problem -- improving automobile suspensions -- that had nothing to do with sound. Read more

Here is an interesting poll survey that gives the differences between Christian and Muslim views of which is more important in their identity - Nation or Religion? Muslims consistently - except in the largest Muslim nation Indonesia - view their identity as Muslims more important than their identity defined by their nation! And the identity as Muslim as opposed to Nation is most pronounced in - you guessed it right - Pakistan!! Muslim and Christian responses to "What do you consider yourself first?" - Pew Research Center Read more

Yet another evidence of the increasing Global Warming! Any more of those nonsensical explanations from the Oil-guzzling, Anti-global warming "scientists" and "activists" in the US? ....the steep decline of one bird species for the second straight year has rekindled scientists' fears that global warming could be undermining the coastal food supply, threatening not just the Farallones but entire marine ecosystems. Tiny Cassin's auklets live much of their lives on the open ocean. But in spring, these gray-and-white relatives of the puffin venture to isolated Pacific outposts like the Farallones to dig deep burrows and lay their eggs. Read more

I see that there really are just two main and serious players in the world of virtual business - Yahoo and Google. Yahoo is a very serious contender although it hasnt gotten all its components to pay off as yet. It will as the time goes - despite the off-color recent results. So in this competition the big virtual land grab is on! One of the hottest interactive battlefields between Yahoo and Google involves a land grab. But rather than the virtual kind of the late '90s, this one involves real brick and mortar. Yahoo may have raised the stakes significantly by doing a deal with Zillow, the popular site that just came out this year but is already changing the game in property search and research. Read more

With the purchase of Writely by Google a useful question was raised. Are the Microsoft Office apps going to get useless? Well, maybe.. or maybe not! It all depends on how the trends are going to shape up in future. Such questions were asked at a Supernova 2006 conference hosted by Wharton. A lot of things were discussed. Kevin Lynch from Adobe Systems had some interesting views! The current "chasm" between the web experience and the desktop experience is central, added Kevin Lynch, chief software architect for Adobe Systems. Read more

It is the same pattern isnt it? The Government and the Indian Prime Minister gets all of a peacenik and just when the Indian PM wears the Peace-Clothes, there is a big terrorist attack in India. And then despite the newly worn peace-clothes, the Indian PM gets to eat his words! And once the new clothes are off - the PM comes back to announce that it was the Pak-based terrorists who were behind it. Of course, the terrorists had the Pak Government backing. Well ISI is part of the Government establishment isnt it? Every Pak citizen and his brother goes around trying to distance the state policy from ISI's working. For them, it might be different - but you know for us in India, we really do not give two hoots. As long as ISI is a Government-backed and funded organization, the complicity is clear and unequivocal! Whatever the grand announcements from Mushy! Read more
