You have seen those beggars – poor and haggard and suffering – in Mumbai? Well the entire city’s beggars earn a staggering $42 million a year!!
Most of this city-wide (actually country-wide) enterprise is a commercial one. There are organized gangs which take these activities by kidnapping and forcing kids and handicapped into begging! Many people come to Mumbai from other cities come everyday and many are kids so there is a regular “pipeline” of recruits for them. Sad but staggering!!
