Some interesting arguments from MG Akbar - different but very good take on the recent Indo-US Nuke Agreement! Here, in sum, is what the spokesmen of Dr Manmohan Singh will be telling us as they take their message to the country: — This agreement will permit India to produce fissile materials for its nuclear military needs, despite the fact that the recognised nuclear powers have halted, voluntarily, such production. — The fast-breeder reactors, which can make super-grade plutonium when fully operational, will not be under international inspection or safeguards. Read more

Great article on the evolution and the future of world of internet! (hat tip: Howard Davis) It's amazing how quickly we take things for granted. Think back to 1993. Only grown-ups had mobile phones, no one outside of academic and research labs had an email address, and a URL - now that was something exotic! Amazon was a river, a googol was the technical term for an enormous number (one followed by 100 zeros), eBay and iPod were typos, and there were quaint little shops on the high street called 'travel agents'. Read more

This is a lesser known meeting and headway that Bush's visit made possible. All the headlines have been hogged by the Nuke deal but the commercial stuff is also very important.Overshadowed in the discussion over a nuclear agreement between the United States and India is a different sort of pact - the one between corporate leaders of the two countries.Chief executives of 5 American corporations and 10 Indian companies presented a report to President Bush and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday morning in New Delhi on ways to improve investment and commercial links. Read more

Interesting and a good round-up of the Pakistani media's response to Bush visit to India and Pakistan from Washington Post. The difference, say Pakistan online commentators, explains why President Bush's visit to Islamabad on Saturday is unlikely to generate the warmth or positive headlines of his three-day stay in India. Thursday's suicide bombing that killed a U.S. diplomat underscored the country's volatility and White House security worries. Read more
