Another Natural disaster! An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 has struck Mozambique, the US Geological Survey (USGS) in Denver, Colorado, said Wednesday. The earthquake, centred about 530 kilometres north of Maputo, occurred at 12:19 a.m. Thursday (22:19 GMT Wednesday), the USGS said in a news release. No reports of damage or casualties have been received, but the earthquake may have caused damage because of its location and size, the release said. The earthquake was felt in Mutare, Zimbabwe's third largest city on its eastern border with Mozambique. The tremor lasted for about an hour, according to people who live in Mutare. Read more

This was yet another tragedy to hit South East Asia - almost the entire town has been wiped out! Over 1000 dead! Teams of Philippine soldiers and U.S. Marines, along with Malaysian and Taiwanese experts, had suspended the search overnight because of concern that rain was making the area more prone to further landslides. Also, a small generator used to light the area ran out of fuel. "We have not found any structure to indicate the location of the school," said Joel Son, in charge of a group of miners working at the site. "It's all mud." Hopes for a miracle have focused on the school largely because of unconfirmed reports that survivors there sent mobile phone text messages to relatives shortly after the landslide hit Friday. Read more

Here is some sound advice on the start of a financial life.. which can be used at any time: 1. Simplify Your Debt Situation A good financial plan must include an assessment of your debt situation. Left unchecked, debt can lead to a "reverse savings" situation, whereby you pay more out in debt interest than your investments' appreciation. At the same time, it's prudent to differentiate among various types of debt. Credit cards are the archenemy of financial independence, so limit yourself to one credit card (to build a credit history) and vigilantly pay it off every month. This will prevent you from living above your means. Read more
