News Source: SiliconIndia.com News Highlight: Indian software service providers are doing head-to-head against legacy IT majors such as IBM and Accenture and there is a major transitional change happening at the market place, a business newspaper reported. An industry expert said that the much superior quality of our service and our global delivery model have created enormous pressure on legacy players, adding that the recent order from ABN Amro Bank vindicated this. There are still four-five other large deals in the pipeline, whose details cannot be mentioned due to their long gestation period before they fructify, SD Shibulal, director and head of sales and delivery, Infosys. News Source: Fortune News Highlight: DELPHI'S NEXT CHAPTER?: The largest U.S. auto parts supplier filed for bankruptcy protection on Saturday following a long battle with high materials and labor costs. DPH lost 79 cents, or more than 70%, to 33 cents. One analyst said that Delphi's Chapter 11 filing increases the possibility that GM, Delphi's biggest customer, won't be able to turn around its operations. In a research note, Banc of America's Ron Tadross said: "It is our view that bankruptcy protection for GM is increasingly looking like a reasonable way to properly address the company's retirement liabilities and job security benefits." Standard & Poor's lowered GM's debt rating—again. And Moody's may follow suit. GM fell $2.81, almost 10%, to $25.48. Other automakers spun their wheels on Monday. Toyota's stock, TM, lost 94 cents to $89.64 and Honda's HMC fell 37 cents to $27.74. Meanwhile, a Delphi rival, Dana Corp., said that due to accounting problems, it will restate earnings for 2004 and the first half of 2005, and delay posting its third-quarter earnings for 2005. DCN fell $3.15 to $6.04. One ray of light in the auto industry was a "vehicle value" survey, done by a San Diego-based marketing research firm, which gave high marks to Toyota, Honda, and GM. Toyota's Scion won big for buyer satisfaction. Honda was the best overall winner, with high points for its fuel economy (which is key these days), resale value, and technological innovations. General Motors got the best score for U.S. automakers. Too bad it couldn't save their stocks! URL Link: http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item.jhtml?id=5027&t=finance&wkrss=y Highlights: It's budgeting time again, and several managers are up to their old tricks. The head of marketing presents a less-than-ambitious plan so he can exceed his targets and earn his bonus. A division manager is veiling her unit's flaws to win funding for her plan. The product development director insists that failing to invest in his idea will doom the company to the sidelines. Though such budgeting shenanigans have long been practiced, today they're increasingly worrisome, says Richard Steele, a New York-based partner at management consultancy Marakon Associates. During boom times, business leaders didn't care as much about budget trickery because resources were plentiful, says Steele, who is also coauthor with Craig Albright of "Games Managers Play at Budget Time" (Sloan Management Review, Spring 2004). "But in tough times, the behavior is getting more attention," says Steele, and executives are less willing to tolerate it. Source: HBS Working Knowledge Read more

The top four Indian News sites are decidedly the most lousiest sites to visit! They have so many pop-ups embedded in them and so much of advertising that its impossible to read any thing. In order of worse to bad is: 1. Hindustan Times 2. Times of India 3. Sulekha 4. Rediff. Once upon a time, Rediff used to be my favorite .. no more. They changed their entire design long back - some 2-3 years back and totally messed it up! Most of these rely on the sophistry of the Indian IT folks - but would someone teach them the basic rules of communication and design??? I feel there is a crying need for a news site on Indian issues to come up that is clean and nice and pleasing to read. Read more

News Source: Sify.com News Highlight: No evidence suggests that the deadly earthquake that rocked Pakistan on Saturday injured or killed the world’s top terror leader, Osama Bin Laden. The quake shook the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan, where Bin Laden is believed to be hiding. However, authorities at this point have no information indicating he’s been injured or killed, said a US official. Bin Laden guided the September 11, 2001, attacks aimed at New York City and Washington. US hopes for Bin Laden’s death or capture were high in December 2001, when US and Afghan troops surrounded a cave complex sheltering Al-Qaeda members in Afghanistan’s Tora Bora region. Laws are merely different events that have been linked in a causation paradigm - because they have happened - or apparently happened - as we know them in a certain sequence! The structure and serial linkages of the prevalent laws and "principles" therefore are limited by our prevalent consciousness. Our limits of Consciousness are defined by the three Variables - Space, Time and Causation! Do our "laws" or "principles" change when our consciousness clears off fog to reveal to us some more ....events and "ideas"? Yes, perhaps thats how Einstein came up with the relativity theory! Or with E=mc2. Which would mean that there is more "data" out there than what we have in our consciousness database... waiting to be assimilated into the serial structures of the prevalent laws which form part of our consciousness! Read more
