Don’t Throw the Baby Out with the Bathwater

Deconstruction is unavoidable for the thinking believer, but it can also be hazardous. As someone who has undergone both deconstruction and reconstruction, I want to offer advice on how to do it in a way that protects both wellbeing and aspects of faith that are precious. There is much that needs to be challenged, but in my experience, we can do that without losing our closeness to Jesus or our faith in his love. The key, for me, has been to deconstruct ‘mystically’, which means to rely on the experience of the divine to guide us while we do it. In other words, we can stick close to the Holy Spirit and have him lead us into all the truth, rather than distance ourselves from him while we work things out without his guidance.

I recently had the chance to discuss this, and much more, with Glenn Siepert in an episode of his What If Project podcast. Rather than reiterate everything we discussed, I’ll just post a link to our conversation here.

Enjoy, and please feel free to share your thoughts here in the comments section.
