What do you believe the Day of Judgement will look like? I was brought up with some ideas I now consider to be as unbiblical as they are harmful, including:
– Judgement is a process that determines who is going to Heaven and who is going to Hell.
– Grace and mercy cannot be accessed once we pass away and face Judgement.
– That God will be wrathful on the Day of Judgement, and will show none of the compassion of Jesus.
I have come to believe that the Bible portrays The Day (era) of Judgement as an epoch of divine gratitude, reconciliation of broken relationships, repentance, forgiveness, and healing, leading ultimately to the unity of all people in Christ. In the end, nobody will be left out, though it may take a lot longer for some than others.
I’ve written an article on the true nature of judgement as a process of healing and restoration, which Patheos have published directly on the website rather than through my blog. I’m re-posting it here for my readers and would love to hear your thoughts.
