My Armor 33: Proverbs 4 & 5

My Armor 33: Proverbs 4 & 5 February 4, 2016

My Armor Slider 2Proverbs is something that is great for women however, Proverbs is something that Solomon wrote for his own sons. Okay Solomon was King David’s kid and he had a dream and in said dream God said to him “what you want I’ll give anything you want” , and he said “I want wisdom” and so wisdom he got and what he did was he wrote Proverbs.

Proverbs 4:1-5
Young men, listen to me as you would to your father. Listen, and grow wise, for I speak the truth—don’t turn away. For I, too, was once a son, tenderly loved by my mother as an only child, and the companion of my father. He told me never to forget his words. “If you follow them,” he said, “you will have a long and happy life. Learn to be wise,” he said, “and develop good judgment and common sense! I cannot overemphasize this point.\
Living Bible (TLB)

How incredible when you consider how long ago this was written and how it still applies today.

Learn and be wise develop good judgment and common sense now a lot of us when we pray we pray for all kinds of stuff and you have your own way of praying some you spend five minutes on and some of you spent an hour on it some you spend 10,20 whatever but what are you praying for? I’m careful a little bit about what I pray for careful about praying for patience because I know he’s gonna give me something that’s gonna really put me in a position where I have to have patience so I’m kind of  careful about that.

But I do pray for wisdom and I seek wisdom I want wisdom in the worst way I just I want the Lord to give me wisdom I want to have that and like he says it’s just important.

You know when I pray I go all out you know I know I’m talking to my heavenly dad and I talked to him like my heavenly dad I talked to him like my dad I’m respectful but at the same time I don’t get into this kind of thing where it’s like, ‘my heavenly Lord I pray to the and upon the that thine might answer thine prayer’ that you I just and I’ve said this before he knows what you look like when you eat at 2 o’clock in the morning.

So why are you going through the whole and the “thighest shallots watches over thee” you know what are we doing that for?

Just talk to him this goes on to say determination to be wise is the first step toward becoming wise

Proverbs 4:7-9
Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment. If you exalt wisdom, she will exalt you.
Living Bible (TLB)

It means that if you make wisdom a priority and you make wisdom something that you’re really searching for and looking for and wanting and desiring wisdom will come to you, and it’s been recently that I’ve been praying for wisdom and going that you know what that’s something that I really need I used to have a lot of wisdom.

I felt like I used to have more wisdom necessarily than I have now, and so I pray for wisdom I seek it I wanted I needed so that’s what I’m doing now and that is different.

Proverbs 4:10
My son listen to me and do as I say and you will have a long good life.
Living Bible (TLB)

The Bible is truth want to tell you that first and foremost the Bible is inherent truth it’s infallible which means that it does not have mistakes in it. So as I read something to you understand that it is ultimate truth whether you believe that or not doesn’t change the fact. The truth is it’s truth it’s not truth to me, it’s truth just like gravity is you’re not going to meet a lot of people that are like gravity I don’t believe in it.

Really? Fly off the Empire State building I bet you’ll believe gravity. Anyway to me the Bible is inherent truth so when I read something like that it really means something to me my son listen to me and do as I say and you’ll  have a long good life if I’m like ooh my ears perk up I want to know what’s coming next.

Proverbs 4:11-12
I would have you learn this great fact that a life of doing right is the wisest life there is if you live that kind of life you’re not limp or stumble as you run carry out my instructions don’t forget them and they will lead you to real living.
Living Bible (TLB)

What’s real living? You know here’s what real living is real living is not being strung out it’s not like I was when I was a complete and total alcoholic where I used to shut the blinds I’d wake up in the morning I’d forget what I said on the computer on the telephone that’s not real living. Real living is having joy and there’s a lot of us that we go what is that?

Proverbs 4:11-12
Don’t do as the wicked do. Avoid their haunts—turn away, go somewhere else, for evil men can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day. They can’t rest unless they cause someone to stumble and fall. They eat and drink wickedness and violence! But the good man walks along in the ever-brightening light of God’s favor; the dawn gives way to morning splendor, while the evil man gropes and stumbles in the dark.
Living Bible (TLB)

Isn’t that true? I remember a time where I was evil where I wasn’t I wasn’t who I am today. I was living a life of debauchery I was living a life of of of of moral bankruptcy and I just remember that I wasn’t who I am now, and that is what life was like stumbling around in the dark that makes sense to me, that speaks to me, that means something to me.

Proverbs 4:20-22

Listen, son of mine, to what I say. Listen carefully. Keep these thoughts ever in mind; let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they will mean real life for you and radiant health.

Check this next part out check this next part out.

Proverbs 4:23
23 Above all else, guard your affections
Living Bible (TLB)

We live in a day now of dating websites, we live in a day now of call girls, we live in a day now where if you want sex instantly it’s so easy, if you want a relationship it’s extremely easy. You can pick somebody that doesn’t have the same sort of moral compass that you have and it’s just so easy.

Yet thousands of years ago thousands of years ago here’s King Solomon saying

Proverbs 4:23-25
Above all else, guard your affections. For they influence everything else in your life. Spurn the careless kiss of a prostitute.[b] Stay far from her. Look straight ahead; don’t even turn your head to look.
Living Bible (TLB)

Now do you think he’s just talking about prostitutes when he mentions that?

Because I don’t. And by the way if we’re talking about it since we’re having such an open dialogue about it if we are looking at porn we are looking at a prostitute because a prostitute is somebody that accepts money for sex. So if anybody ever wondered well is porn specifically talked about in the Bible? I think so I think it is talking about a prostitute and a prostitute is somebody that accepts money for sex, a porn star does in fact accept money for sex she’s not doing it for free.

Proverbs 4:26
Watch your step. Stick to the path and be safe. 27 Don’t sidetrack; pull back your foot from danger.
Living Bible (TLB)

So now we are going to get into chapter 5, and he starts to talk a little bit about how live in our lives when it comes to our wives. This is important and I can tell you this am a single guy now my wife and I are officially divorced our divorce is absolutely final. And I have a desire to marry again. I do. I have a desire to marry again I believe in the institution of marriage.

Proverbs 5:1a
Listen to me, my son!
Living Bible (TLB)

I know what I’m saying listen that’s already my ears again are perking up because he’s not just like so check this out he’s like listen to what I’m about to say listen really listen it’s almost like he’s making a big deal out of the following words like this what’s common up kid this is some important stuff don’t just blow it off. And here’s what he says,

Proverbs 5:2-16
Watch yourself, lest you be indiscreet and betray some vital information. For the lips of a prostitute are as sweet as honey, and smooth flattery is her stock-in-trade.But afterwards only a bitter conscience is left to you, sharp as a double-edged sword. She leads you down to death and hell. For she does not know the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t even realize where it leads. Young men, listen to me, and never forget what I’m about to say: Run from her! Don’t go near her house, lest you fall to her temptation and lose your honor, and give the remainder of your life to the cruel and merciless; lest strangers obtain your wealth, and you become a slave of foreigners. Lest afterwards you groan in anguish and in shame when syphilis consumes your body. and you say, “Oh, if only I had listened! If only I had not demanded my own way! Oh, why wouldn’t I take advice? Why was I so stupid? For now I must face public disgrace.” Drink from your own well, my son—be faithful and true to your wife. Why should you beget children with women of the street?
Living Bible (TLB)

That’s solid I think that’s pretty solid

Think about that you know when you first started dating your wife your wife to you was hot and the truth is is that as she grows older even as she changes she’s still hot. And the reason she’s hot is because she was hot to you like they put on a few pounds or whatever they are still pretty hot, they are still pretty good in bed and that’s what we’re saying here and I mean Paul talks about it in first Corinthians 7 about sex there’s nothing in the Bible that’s like “Don’t have sex”. in fact under marriage it’s like get kinky get on with it have some fun.

If you’re married I mean you should be trying out new positions. And I know for a Christian podcast that sounds a little bit crazy. But it’s true if you’re married it is not meant to be this boring button up Christian thing. When you’re married she’s your wife she’s hot enjoy her. Stick with her. And you know they say you know sex in a lot of ways for guys it’s like pizza it’s never bad it’s pizza what are you complaining about?  It’s pizza it’s delicious I mean are you are you nuts? Stick with the wife. Don’t look for another one.

And the truth is and again this is a Christian podcast I know this is gonna be controversial to a lot of people listen just because it’s another woman doesn’t mean that it feels differently your wife she feels great stick with the wife and that’s what Solomon is saying here stick with the wife.

Proverbs 5:17
Why share your children with those outside your home? 18 Be happy, yes, rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Living Bible (TLB)

hey listen my father is 79 years old he’s still rejoicing in the wife of his youth he loves her they’ve been married for 59 years.

Proverbs 5:18-23
Be happy, yes, rejoice in the wife of your youth. Let her breasts and tender embrace satisfy you. Let her love alone fill you with delight. Why delight yourself with prostitutes, embracing what isn’t yours? For God is closely watching you, and he weighs carefully everything you do. The wicked man is doomed by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He shall die because he will not listen to the truth; he has let himself be led away into incredible folly.
