Welcome to the Big Picture Podcast.  Once again it’s time to hang out with the Late ‘Boomer as he continues to mop up the societal mess left by his generation, the Baby Boomers. Today’s thoughts on the Baby Boomer legacy are in reaction to an article I came across a while back, which was actually one of the things that started the wheels turning in the Late ‘Boomers head and eventually led to this segment. The article was written... Read more

To purchase the entire Summit Lecture Series, Vol. 1 on DVD, go to: summit.org Isn’t it narrow-minded to say that Christianity is the only way?  By insisting that it is, doesn’t this just make you a bigoted, intolerant fundamentalist? I basically have a few responses to this: Firstly, I help them understand that their very question is an ad hominum logical fallacy, where they are attacking me instead of my view.  You see, by labeling Christians as bigoted, intolerant or narrow-minded,... Read more

The honey price increases in Sacramento, CA have led to a jump in beehive thefts.  Beekeepers have always been concerned about someone stealing their hives – if only there were some sort of flying predator that could sting would-be-thieves when their hives were threatened. Wouldn’t that be nice? Instead, today’s keepers are turning to the latest technology to put a stop to the honey poaching.  Some have installed GPS chips to track the hives should they maliciously move away.... Read more

Suzanne Lederer leads us in connecting with God through Lectio Divina. Romans 8:31-38 (MSG) So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one... Read more

Matthew 7:1-6 1 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. 3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your... Read more

In this week’s podcast, we flash back to last year when Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were found after being held hostage for ten years.  They were beaten, raped, lost pregnancies and subjected to inhumanities too great to describe in this podcast. So, how does this relate to our lives today? I say this often:  “Life, for all of us, is relative.” This is what I mean:  Sometimes you’ll hear about a professional athlete going through some... Read more

The Greek word for kindness means tender concern for others.  It has nothing to do with weakness or lack of conviction, rather it is the genuine desire of a believer to treat others gently, just as the Lord treats us… the term possesses the harmlessness of a dove.  It is a tender heart and a nurturing spirit.  Each quality of the Holy Spirit is absolutely divine. They are impossible goals for the unbeliever, yet attainable graces for the true... Read more

Have you heard of Men’s Fraternity? It’s the world’s most popular men’s discipleship curriculum. Thousands of churches around the globe have used this much-loved video series to challenge their men. Men’s Fraternity began in the early 1990s. Pastor Robert Lewis of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock saw his men returning from Promise Keepers rallies excited about their faith. But there were few resources to disciple them. So one Sunday Lewis announced that he was going to offer an... Read more

What does the word “evangelism” make me cringe?  And how is it that Atheists can help me tell my story? You see, when I hear the word “evangelize”, it makes me think of an overbearing street corner preacher.  You know, the guys shouting in the subway corners, jamming their fingers into their Bibles and shouting at the top of their voice about something that I assume is about God, but I don’t really know since I just pop in... Read more

To purchase the entire Summit Lecture Series, Vol. 1 on DVD, go to: summit.org Aren’t all religions basically the same? Consider the “Coexist” bumper stickers and t-shirts.  At its core, the campaign encourages everyone to commune together – not focusing on the differences between the different religions, but only focusing on their similarities. Or, to quote The Modern Thinker’s Creed by Stephen Turner: “We believe that all religions are basically the same… They all believe in love and goodness.  They only... Read more
