In review, in the process of breaking strongholds, the first step is: 1. Recognizing your captor 2. Standing in Agreement with God. 3.  Tearing down the lies that wall paper your mind. 4. Putting up the truth Today we are talking about 5.  Bowing thoughts to truth and how to do it. Before we can get controlling thoughts out of our minds, they must become Christ controlled thoughts while still in our minds.  That is what the word means... Read more

It’s funny.  Often times, well-intentioned people pick up the Bible with the desire to read and learn it cover to cover.  They open up to Genesis and enjoy its exciting stories as well as those found in the first half of Exodus. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, come a long, LONG list of laws.  These laws continue through Leviticus and Numbers and then are repeated in Deuteronomy.  Well, right around the middle of Exodus – at the beginning of these... Read more

What happens when we step out of our safe Christian bubbles and come face to face with questions such as: Why do you think God even exists? Why do you trust the Bible? Wasn’t Jesus merely a good man and teacher? Often times, questions like these become the seeds of doubt in the minds of many Christians today. Doubt is simply uncertainty in regards to God. What each of us needs to know is that doubt is a universal human... Read more

When it comes to telling kids about the divorce, many parents freeze up.  It’s not easy to tell your child you are getting divorced and that one of their parents will not be in the home any longer.  You may already be a mess yourself and facing the task of telling your children that their family will be different now seems huge and in fact it is. So before you sit your kids down, think about what you want... Read more

Welcome to the Big Picture Podcast. I’m Joel Fieri and this podcast seeks to begin and hopefully sustain a conversation about current trends, ideas and issues in the Church and greater society. This week I’m going to follow up with my subject from last week, which caused a bit of discussion in the Backrow Baptist’s family.  On it I talked about the role of men and women in church and the Christian community, and went over the basics of... Read more

Comedian Gid Pool calls into the show from sunny Florida to discuss some things that he has noticed in his recent travels. For instance, Gid took his grandson to a local playground not long ago and was struck with the realization that we are raising a generation of wimpy kids.  Today’s playgrounds are filled with soft rubber pellets and pads to provide for a soft landing should any child fall.  Every corner is gently rounded with sufficient padding to... Read more

You have to do your best whenever you are working with people in order to avoid interpersonal train wrecks. One example:  just before Thanksgiving, a woman’s elderly mother died while vacationing abroad.  Subsequently, they had Mom’s body delivered to her hometown for services.  But when they opened the casket just before her wake, they discovered that the wrong body had been delivered! To avoid further complications, the family continued with the wake, but opted for a closed casket service.... Read more

Suzanne Lederer leads us in connecting with God through Lectio Divina. Psalm 40 (NIV) Thanksgiving for Deliverance and Prayer for Help 1 I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear... Read more

As you are about to hear in this PODCAST, it is my sense that far too often in the Christian community at large, we display a woefully naive and underdeveloped understanding of person-to-person forgiveness. Matthew 6:9-12 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. Too many... Read more

In review, in the process of breaking strongholds, the steps we have covered so far are: Recognizing your captor Standing in Agreement with God. Tearing down the lies that wall paper your mind. Today we are going to talk about:  Putting up the truth Our captive has escaped the prison of her controlling thoughts and is very close to controlling those thoughts instead.  What has happened to set her free?  First, she was forgiven for all sins involved in... Read more
