Mark Driscoll’s Invitation to Hillsong Church in Sydney Withdrawn

Mark Driscoll’s Invitation to Hillsong Church in Sydney Withdrawn June 9, 2015

It’s not often that religion gets top tier billing in the Aussie news cycle , but it did this week with the uproar over Hillsong inviting Mark Driscoll to speak at their annual conference which is, incidentally, the biggest Christian conference in the country.

Over at ABC is the headine: Controversial pastor Mark Driscoll who likened women to ‘penis homes’ no longer attending Hillsong Australian conference.

In a statement, Hillsong founder Brian Houston said he had heard of some of Mr Driscoll’s statement for the first time in the past week.

“After personal interaction with Mark Driscoll today (Sunday), we have agreed that he will no longer be coming to Australia or the UK to attend Hillsong Conference,” he said.

“It is my hope that Mark and I will be able to speak in person in the coming weeks to discuss some of the issues that have been raised, what – if anything – he has learned, and for me to understand better how he is progressing in both his personal and professional life.”

There’s been a big uproar about this on social media, for and against Driscoll, and for and against Hillsong.
