I am elated to announce that my book The Gospel of the Lord: How the Early Church Wrote the Story of Jesus has won the Christianity Today’s 2015 Book of the Year for Biblical Studies. Second year in a row that an Aussie has taken out this gong. Last year it was won by Con Campbell for his book Paul and Union with Christ. Very chuffed at this. Was some good news for me against the backdrop of what has been a bleak couple of days for Australia.

The Gospel of the Lord: How the Early Church Wrote the Story of Jesus
Michael F. Bird (Eerdmans)
“This book covers the formation of the Gospels, asking and answering questions that have occupied undergraduate and seminary students, but in fresh ways. It will be of interest to students of the New Testament as well as anyone who takes an interest in the life of Jesus and the use of the New Testament in the early church.” —Mary Veeneman, professor of theology, North Park University.
I have to confess that I’m in some rather good company with awards also going to James K. Smith, Marilynne Robinson, and Kevin Vanhoozer.
That is one achievement ticked off the bucket list.
