The St. Paul Hip Hop Contest

The St. Paul Hip Hop Contest

Okay, I’m gonna throw down at Jarvis Williams and challenge him to a St. Paul Hip Hop Contest.

Jarvis is working on the Galatians volume for the NCCS (Wipf & Stock) and is threatening to insert some hip hop lyrics into his .

However, I already did this in my Romans commentary for the SGBC series (Zondervan), by adding some freestyle rhymes about Romans 6.

So I’m challenging Jarvis to see if he can do better and I’ll invite people to vote on which lyrical panoply of divine poetry is sicker (i.e. that means “better” if you’re white and over 45 years old).

I have to say that after listening to three songs from the Broadway musical Hamilton and reading a wikipedia article about Lecrae, I now consider myself an expert on hip hop.

So here is what I wrote in my Romans:

By faith we’re righted, with a Messiah united,
sin is defied since I’m co-crucified
I serve a new sire, dunked into the Messiah,
dying and rising, no more sin tyrannizing,
in a glorious blaze, one day I’ll be raised,
so all say “hallelujah” from Fargo to Fallujah.

To Jarvis: Beat that cuz!
