The book Five Views on Biblical Inerrancy is just about ready for release and will be available at ETS which is having its conference theme on the topic. The book features Al Mohler, Peter Enns, Kevin Vanhoozer, John Franke, and Michael Bird. It is edited by James Merrick and Stephen Garrett. Here is a video from Peter Enns and Al Mohler about the book:   My favourite line from the book is “Don’t cry for me Chewbacca” which I wrote in response... Read more

I am excited about the brand new volume of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Works, vol. 14. The collection of letters, papers, sermons, lectures, and essays come from the Finenwalde years, 1935-1937. This is no small volume with a total of over 12oo pages! It will take a good while to read through this book, but I’m looking forward to it. For those interested in theological education and spiritual formation in the English speaking world this new volume of the the German Dietrick... Read more

Thanks to John Anthony Dunne and Chris Brewer there will be a beer reception at SBL/AAR. Sadly I won’t be able to make it. And FWIW, I actually like Heineken, cause when I drink it, I feel like a cross between Abraham Kuyper and James Bond! Read more

I became a Christian in 1994 thanks to the witness and prayer of a group of Christians at Wattle Grove Baptist Church in western Sydney. Soon after I came to faith, the church appointed its first pastor, a young mid-twenty something guy named Craig Corkill, recently married to Carolyn, and still finishing off his B.Min at Moorling College. Craig and Carolyn showed me great hospitality and kindness over the next couple of years. Craig also met with me regularly, discipled... Read more

I’ve compared the articles and the contributors lists of the first and second editions of the DJG. I’m sorry to report that if you want an article on “Abiathar” the priest you’ll no longer find one in the second edition. Very sad! You’ll have to keep your first edition after all! Here are some data: 27  New Articles African American Criticism Beloved Disciple Canonical Criticism Christology Criteria of Authenticity Cynics and Cynicism Economics Essenes Exile and Restoration Feminist and Womanist... Read more

Over at First Things, Peter Leithart has an interesting piece on The End of Protestantism where he argues that we should think of ourselves not as anti-Catholic Protestants, but instead as Reformational Catholics. Protestantism has had a good run. It remade Europe and made America. It inspired global missions, soup kitchens, church plants, and colleges in the four corners of the earth. But the world and the Church have changed, and Protestantism isn’t what the Church, including Protestants themselves, needs... Read more

I am excited about recently receiving the new edition of the Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels. I am also pleased that these days I consider two of the editors (Nick and Jeannine) and many of the contributors as friends. Quite a different sense of things from when I first used the first edition of DJG. Truth be told, I was initially slated to write two of the articles, but had to regretfully decline in the end due to other... Read more
