Last week my friend York asked, “what’s wrong with your hair?” This came only two days after my friend Jean asked, “so little buddy, what’s up with your hair nowadays?” I get the point. If youv’e seen me lately, you know it’s been a hot mess. Nappy, too big, a bad haircut (by me), roots are natural while the ends are permed.
Seriously, it’s been downright awful. And the only reason I haven’t done anything about it is time. How do I give focus to my hair in the midst of the holidays and my husband being gone for 10 days?
The other night I was so miserable about it, I even fell asleep in my bed writing this little ditty…
*(Sung to the tune of the Veggie Tales song, The Chocolate Factory)*
It’s big, it’s nappy, it’s bushy
It just gets in the way
and everytime I take a look in the mirror with disappointment
it just seems to say:
“I’m big
I’m nappy
I’m bushy
High maintenance I will be
I won’t be cute and will not work for you
unless you spend some money on ME!”
Finally, yesterday I decided to do something, anything really, about this mop top. The day started with something I haven’t done in way too long…
a hair day! Or, well, something like that. Considering it took from 11am until midnight made it truly worthy of this response when Dave asked if we could go watch a movie, “sorry, I’m washing my hair.”
It was sort of fun to wash my hair, feed Rhys, burp Rhys, then condition, feed Ransom, then put color on (just a dark brown ~ no big change), then sit under a heating cap while the boys napped, then rinse it out, feed Rhys, then re-condition, then play with Ransom, then rinse that out, then blow dry to look like a 1970’s fro reject…
And then entertain not two, but four kiddo’s ranging from Rhys (two months), Shila (3 years), Ransom (4 years) & Kobe (5 years) while my friend Verma braided my hair (from 7pm on) in between feedings and snacks and night time routines. Until finally at midnight, I got my happy ending…
And what a glorious of 4 weeks we will have together.
