Expectations are everything, aren’t they?
After my friends Jodi & Cristina both gave this movie a shrug and an “eh,” I wasn’t as excited about. They both agreed, “it was just oooo-kay.”
And, of course, guess what? I saw it, liked it and loved it!
The movie is about two women whose lives connect in an odd way. Meryl Streep plays an American who gets famous after living in France, learning to cook French food and writing a cook book. Amy Adams plays a woman who decides to begin a year long blog about her adventures cooking her way through said cookbook. I found it to be v. sweet and enjoyable.
What made the whole movie for me was Meryl Streep’s performance. She deserved that SAG, People’s Choice & all the other awards she’s currently racking up this award season. She changed her voice, her laugh, her mannerisms to become this out-of-this world character. She even practiced what it would be like to be 6 ft. 5 in. and carried herself in the film as such.
She made me cry, she made me laugh out loud, she basically carried the film. (Not that Amy Adams wasn’t great by any stretch). There is one scene where she has finally learned to chop onions and has surpassed all of her male (more experienced) & shorter classmates. The way she does that scene, makes me love the whole movie practically.
Loved it!
Recommend (Okay, fine, so it’s a total chick flick)
