Rachel (is) Getting Married

Rachel (is) Getting Married

Why no "is"? Does that bug anyone else?

Rachel Getting Married. ay ay ay.  I haven’t seen such a sobering film in quite awhile.  And by sobering I don’t mean that I was crying -though I did once- I mean it was so friggin depressing I had to look away at times. Actually, look away out of sheer embarrassment & shame!

The film is about Anne Hathaway’s character coming home from rehab to attend her sister, Rachel’s wedding weekend.  Then the film unleashes the absolute hell of their dysfunctional family dynamics.

If you have a weird mom (or dad) a dysfunctional family or a crazy sister (or brother) or horrible boundary issues in your family, etc. be forewarned this movie will make you cringe & feel just awful about 52 times.

However, there is some hope and there is some redemption & there is a real beauty to the film that makes me want to recommend it to you though it’s incredibly sad.  First off, the whole movie was scored live by live musicians, which gives it a very real & raw emotional setting.  Second off, they film a weekend of what looks like the absolute most fun wedding weekend I’ve ever seen… I kept thinking, “man, I wish I had had a pre-wedding weekend like that,” it’s just beautiful.  Lastly, it’s artistically stunning -cinematography speaking that is.  And of course, Anne Hathaway scored her first Oscar nomination for this movie & I think it was well deserved.

So, for the sad factor & the ability to make you feel ashamed to be part of your own dysfunctional family, I’m going to give it a B+, but because it’s so beautifully put together, I’d nearly give it an A-

Not highly recommend, but do recommend if your in the mood for a little quality indie flick.
