Shame on Oliver Stone. Growing up, didn’t he learn it’s not nice to be a bully? This movie was pathetically biased. It portrayed the entire Bush family in such a horrible light that I seriously doubt they used any insider information whatsoever.
You should also know that my position on W is not because I’m a George W. Bush fan. I think he was an average president at best. No, my horrible review of this terrible movie is that it was just plain old cruel. Like a 5 yr. old kid coming up to my 3 yr. old & smacking him across the face for no good reason.
Even if George W. did make a lot of mistakes as President -hypothetically speaking, of course- does that warrant a full out attack of his character? I’m thinking, “no.” I’m not against critically analyzing leaders and their leadership styles, but a demeaning film? Yeah, I guess I’m against that.
I firmly believe public figures should be held to a higher standard of morality on all sorts of levels. Even for myself, as a speaker and a leader who is known to all of maybe 1,000 people on facebook, I hold myself to a higher standard because I know there are those who look up to me.
So, I’m not against George W. Bush being held up as a good (or bad) model of leadership. But, in this way, it was completely unfair & I have lost respect for many of the actors who took part in this film. (As an aside, I was also super annoyed with Thandie Newton’s portrayal of Condaleeza Rice).
That said, it’s a well made film. And Josh Brolin’s protrayal of “Dubya” was spot on & downright Oscar worthy. However, for sheer mean-ness of script, I’m giving it a big, old fat D-.
Skip it.
