Yesterday I got a package in the mail from one of my InterVarsity colleagues, who happens to be one of my cool author friends and one of the sweetest ladies you’ll ever meet, Kathy Khang. Now I think we have to go with the name we were thinking about all along: Dharma Swan Biskie.  Or Dharma Namaste Biskie.  I can’t wait for my little boy to be officially inducted into the Dharma initiative when he wears this get-up.  If this blog... Read more

All of this prep to be sure baby #2 has a comfortable space to be in our home, has got me thinking lots of preparation in general. When I was pregnant with our 1st son Ransom I remember spending hours over the course of the summer moving our office into a different room & very unfortunately moving 1/2 of our house out into the garage which never fully recovered until a few months ago. With this pregnancy, we’ve also spent... Read more

The other night I had a dream my new baby boy was born.  He came out with pale white skin, blue eyes & long pin-straight red hair.  He didn’t look like he belonged to me at all.  In my dream I kept looking at him feeling so sad & disappointed at his apparent whiteness.  In fact, the lingering sadness in my gut woke me up and I realized it was an awful dream on so many levels.  If you remember... Read more

(In case youv’e not been keeping up with my recent hair drama, go here. From a smooth perm & cut last Winter (which I loved)… …I began a new hair phase.  I made an effort to spend no money on my hair which then led to weave ponytails to 1/2 permed, 1/2 natural hair and I finally made the move to cut a heaping amount of inches, not to mention my permanent relaxer off as of 5 days ago.  My... Read more

A guest post from: Mystery Guy from CA I spoke to a Christian business owner last week. Our nation’s economic downturn has washed away some of her income, and she has had subsequent challenges with her smarmy landlord (won’t alter lease, sending threatening lawyers, etc.). When she shared some of her woes with one of her Christian patrons, the patron said You should be happy – at least you are just about breaking even. Her response: Well, I’m not really... Read more

So, the average woman doing around the clock breastfeeding may have an estimated 90-100 hours of nursing in the first 6-8 weeks of a newborn’s life. I’ve all ready decided I’m going to up my blockbuster subscription to 3-DVD’s-at-a-time for the month of October & November, since when I was nursing my first-born, Ransom I had no options but to re-watch old movies & I got really bored, really quick. It became pretty obvious that it was too difficult to... Read more

We had an amazing transformation in the Biskie household today. My sweet & generous friends Dave & Jessica Fick came over today to help us tackle our basement.  Before I even asked, Jess told me they’d all ready considered it after reading my pity party. (My) Dave & I started this morning at 8:30am doing laundry & just getting organized.  They got here at 11am & I promise you we worked hard all day until about 9pm!  I must have done 10... Read more

I cut all my hair off this morning!  I was getting so bored rocking the weave ponytails all summer & I can’t afford the $60-$80 touch-up, press, cut & bump.  The costs of course rule out getting braids or twists either. I started off thinking I’d just trim a little but ended up thinking, “why not just cut all of my perm out?”  My hair was about shoulder length with the top half being my naturally curly style and the... Read more

Do you ever feel like this?  Lost in translation & out of control? Last night after I posted my ‘baby name blues’ blog I was determined to find out as much as I could about my Paternal Grandfather so I could prove to Dave once & for all he was a man worthy of naming baby # 2’s middle name after. I trudged down to the basement trying to find old letters my Dad had written me from prison.  I... Read more
