Free Resources to Help You Seek the Lord

In 1 Chronicles 16:11 NASB we are called to “Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.”

Here are four resources that I’ve been using to try to do this. And the best part about each of them is that they’re free.

1. Blue Letter Bible

I like BlueLetterBible.org because as I read a passage of Scripture, I’ll usually come across a word whose meaning is not so clear to me. Fortunately, the Blue Letter Bible has a concordance and Hebrew/Greek lexicon linked to each verse. This let’s you drill down to look up the Biblical usage of a word and gain more clarity.

For instance, Psalm 90:14 NASB reads, “O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

I love the sound of this verse, and wanted to dig deeper into the meaning of the word, “lovingkindness.” So when I drilled down using the lexicon, I found that the Biblical usage can be translated as “goodness, kindness, and faithfulness.”

Now, I have a greater understanding and appreciation for the word.

2. Bible Gateway

BibleGateway.com is also filled with many helpful resources. And the one I appreciate the most is the availability of the Bible in many different versions and languages.

For instance, you can find it in German, Spanish, French, and Chinese – just to name a few. This could help if you’re trying a share Scripture with people who speak another language.

And with the ability to add a parallel translation, you can read the same verses along with them.

3. Bible Study Tools

BibleStudyTools.com is yet another site with tons of tools. And the main resource that I go to is the commentary section.

Commentaries help by giving background information on the authorship, history, setting, and theme of a book in the Bible. Many well-known theologians have written one.

The one I read is the Matthew Henry Concise Version.

4. My Utmost For His Highest

My Utmost For His Highest was written by Oswald Chambers, who founded the Bible Training College in London. It’s a compilation of his talks to his students, separated into short, daily readings.

Many Christian leaders have said that this book has had a great influence on them. A few of them include Lyle Dorsett, Howard Graves, and Harold Lindsell. Although I bought a hard copy, you can actually read each day’s devotion for free here.
