How Much Does A Passport Cost?

If you’re going to travel overseas anytime soon, you’ll need to make sure you have a valid passport.  If you’ve never had a passport, you should be ready to complete a U.S. passport application and understand that you’ll pay a few passport fees as well.

The passport process is fairly straightforward, but you’ll want to make sure you start the process as soon as possible.  According to the U.S. Department of State, it can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for a passport to be processed.  If you expedite the service, you can expect the passport within 2-3 weeks.

How to Pay for a Passport

The U.S. Department of State will accept credit cards and debit cards as well as checks (personal, certified, cashiers, travelers) as long as it is payable to “Department of State.”  If you’re going to apply for a passport at your local post office, be sure to obtain all the paperwork you need and come prepared with a checkbook or credit/debit card.
