What He feeds us is exactly what He wants us to turn around and feed to our children. He is the Living Water, and He loves to nourish His children who then nourish their children. Read more

In this age, when so much information is available at the touch of a screen, it's easy to find good ideas, methods, and tips on motherhood. It's also easy to develop an unnecessary, unhealthy case of introspection that leads to false guilt. Read more

Well, I feel bad. I promised you last week that I’d be a real writer this week and put out some legit blogs (whatever that means). I have written three blogs this week. One I shared on Tuesday. The other two will be perfect for the week before Mother’s Day. Which is next week. Which means for now, I’m going to subject you to trivial events and such that take place in my peculiar life. So here goes: 1.... Read more

Went to the doctor today. Nothing new about that. But so far, every time I see this particular doctor, progress is made. And that’s new. So last night, I was preparing my mind for the appointment, and I had a few questions I desperately wanted to ask him. However, they weren’t on the agenda. Meaning, I was due to speak with him about my medication, and I wanted to tack on a conversation about muscle problems. My experience with... Read more

Are you ready to hear that story I promised about fainting? And a few other stories? 1. It’s not exactly a fainting story, as I didn’t exactly faint. But I did come close in Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. Typically, if I faint or nearly faint, it’s at Target or King Soopers. Although, there was that time I fainted at home as a kid. The time(s) I fainted in P.E. and got kicked out of class for it (haha! –... Read more

Wasn’t it Maya Angelou who said there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story? And could an “untold story” be the same as a Facebook status never shared? Because since I’ve been trying to restrict my Facebook usage, I’ve got a bunch of statuses, aka micro stories, all collecting in my head, creating cerebral edema. Well, that’s dramatic. But you know what I’m saying. My head feels big with words and stuff I want to say, and it’s all... Read more

It figures that as soon as I finish writing a blog that preached a paragraph or two of hell, a massive explosion would erupt in a nearby neighborhood. A woman was airlifted to the hospital. Two men are dead. Their bodies (at this writing) have not been recovered. A juvenile escaped from a window, was taken to the hospital via ambulance, and thankfully released. The woman who was airlifted works with my son-in-law, as a fellow teacher. Word is,... Read more

On a typical day at Orchard House, we get some pretty powerful sun rays streaming in our living room windows. I like them. They help pay my heat bills. When Spring arrives, though, we don’t need quite so much natural heat. By late evening, I often feel smothered by high temperatures and thick air. One day last week was particularly warm, so I stepped outside on the back deck, read one of my favorite authors, Elisabeth Elliot, and munched... Read more

I’ve always wondered what it would be like to experience a thief in the night. Unfortunately, that mystery is no longer a mystery. Last weekend, two thugs decided to don black beanies and scout out Orchard House. Well, they did more than scout. And thankfully, they were loud and dumb about it, like most burglars. It was 2:30 in the morning when Mom woke to people talking outside the front door. She remained in bed for a few minutes, trying... Read more

One persistent argument in response to my blog on Mike Pence was that the VP is not exercising fairness to women by refusing to dine with any woman other than his wife. It kinda kills me that this is even a discussion when, in Syria, where things truly aren’t fair, a man lost over twenty of his family members in a chemical warfare attack. But this is where our country is at these days: majoring on the minor within our... Read more
