I’ve often written about the American persecution complex that tends to see anti-Christian persecution under every rock, and have long been a proponent that such claims of persecution are often simply a loss of privilege or the ability to persecute others. Each time I say something along these lines, I usually get a flood of comments and messages/e-mails telling me how wrong I am and that Christianity in America is under attack. One commenter even said recently that “Jesus” is... Read more

Dear Rick and Becky, We don’t know each other, and the chances of us meeting or finding each other are pretty rare, but I just had to write this letter to you in hopes that enough people would share it that one day you’d read it. You’re a World Vision sponsor and you have been sponsoring a 12 year old boy from Armenia named Menua. From what I can tell you’ve been sponsoring him for a while now, and the... Read more

In a matter of hours, yet another divine image bearer will die by the tip of Caesar’s sword. Kelly Gissendar is more than a human being, more than a bearer of God’s divine image– she is also our sister in Christ. While all Jesus people should grieve each and every time Caesar takes his sword against another, this moment should cause us even more pause as it is a member of our own family. Kelly is not the person she... Read more

The end times version of Christianity that many of us grew up with has been immensely popular, not because it's true, but because it's easy. Read more

This week I’m traveling through Armenia on a vision trip with World Vision, a top-notch relief organization serving people in need across the globe. As we’ve been traveling around the country and meeting Armenian families who have benefited from, or are in deep need of support from a relief organization such as World Vision, I’ve been reminded as to why I wish everyone would just get off their couch and travel– at least once in life. I am convinced that... Read more

Over the weekend, a news story obviously exploded across the internet regarding Brandan Robertson and the cancelation of his book that was slated to be published by Destiny Image, the same publisher I am currently with (Destiny published Undiluted and is currently in mid-production with my second book, Christian Outsiders). The story has quickly escalated to receiving international attention, regarding Brandan- an evangelical and a member of the LGBTQ community- and how his book was snubbed by distributors in the Christian publishing industry,... Read more

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been a lover of all things related to missions. Peering into the window of missionary life was perhaps one of the first things I remember of my childhood that completely fascinated me- while regular weekly sermons may have been boring to sit through, never once was I anything other that completely engaged when a foreign missionary came to speak. The world of missions for me came to embrace the best of everything that makes... Read more

The violence we’re seeing at the hands of ISIS is disgustingly barbaric. If mass beheadings, taking people into slavery, and throwing gay people off the tops of buildings wasn’t enough, they’ve now of course taken to burning people alive. First, it was a single pilot, but now they are parading 17 Kurds in cages with the promise that they’ll be burned alive too. Burning people alive isn’t anything new, and certainly isn’t unique to ISIS– as Christians we have a... Read more

Ever since the terrorist attacks of 9-11, there has been a growing hostility in America toward our Muslim neighbors. With the daily barrage of crimes against humanity being perpetuated and broadcast over social media by ISIS, that hostility toward Muslims in America– and around the world– is only growing. While cries by my Christian brethren of persecution is usually just a loss of privilege, Muslims in America face a concerning level of distrust, bigotry, and real persecution– not the imaginary... Read more

No group of people has tested my resolve in following the ways of Jesus as does ISIS. Yesterday I was deeply grieved to see CNN news reports of 21 Coptic Christians from Egypt– most of them who had been poor immigrants who had migrated to look for work- were kidnapped by ISIS, and beheaded in their most recent gruesome video. As reported by CNN, many of them shouted “Oh God!” “Oh Jesus!” as they were pushed to their knees to... Read more
