Not All Christians Are “Values Voter Summit” Bigots — Some of Us Took Our Stand at the National Press Club

Not all Christians are “Values Voter Summit” bigots. Some of us took our stand at the National Press Club in Washington DC on Thursday, Oct. 10. I had the honor to be part of a coalition of mainstream Christians and LGBT leaders. We were invited by Truth Wins Out,  a non-profit organization that fights anti-gay religious extremism. We were there to endorse NALT, an exciting new platform for pro-LGBT Christians to proclaim our strong support for equality and to tell the world that Christians are, “Not All Like That.”

I’ve posted the 8-minute clip of what I said at the press conference here. We offered a vision for the future of America – one where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.  This is the message of my new book, And God Said, “Billy!”

The event at the National Press Club occurred one day prior to the annual Values Voter Summit, a conference that is organized by America’s most virulent hate groups. The Values Voter Summit features speakers who send the vile message that LGBT people are unworthy, morally and spiritually broken, and a danger to society. We met to make the point that the Values Voter Summit expresses the opposite of Christian values.

Gary Hall, Dean, Washington National Cathedral, Brent Childers, Executive Director, Faith In America, Michael Keegan, President, People for the American Way (PFAW), Andy Lang, Executive Director, United Church of Christ Coalition for LGBT Concerns and John and Catherine Shore, Co-Founders, The NALT Christians Project.
