A Project: Healing and Hope

A Project: Healing and Hope

As you know from previous posts, I have recently had a miscarriage of my first pregnancy. I am the type of person who processes the world around me by reading about what I am experiencing so I can learn as much as possible. In scouring libraries, bookstores, and the Internet, I have not been able to find a book that is by Catholic women, and for Catholic women, to tell our stories of loss, healing, and finding God’s grace in the midst of our tragedy.

So I thought, there should be one! This topic is one of those things you never hear about or talk about, until you have one. Then people take you aside and tell you that at least two women they know have had a miscarriage. Once you have miscarried, you become a member of a secret club, one you would rather not belong to.

I think it’s time to tell the stories of the children we have loved and lost, without having the chance to know them. To tell the stories of how we have let our grief be guided by faith, and united to the sufferings of our Lord.

The idea for this book would be 10-15 essays written by Catholic women who have experienced a miscarriage at some point in their life. It could be two months or twenty years ago. I have thought up some guiding questions that could lead an essay topic, although, each woman would be free to write about what the holy Spirit leads her to.

If you have a story yourself, or know of a Catholic woman who you think would be interested in a project like this, please let me know. At this point I am floating the idea and seeing if there is an interest in developing a book on this topic.

Let me know what you think! If you can’t or don’t feel comfortable posting a response here, email me at [email protected]

God Bless!
