In the midst of my severe case of “baby fever”, I’ve sort of missed most of the house-buying process, delegating most of the question asking and contract reading to my husband (who is a lawyer and reads those kinds of things for fun). I’ve mostly been content to sign on the dotted line, listen to the loan officers, real estate people, etc., and think about how I want to decorate. Lo and behold, one month after putting in an offer,... Read more

* The following is a narrative about what PCOS is, and my experience of having it. If you don’t care, or think it’s TMI,  you should skip this post. You’ve been warned!* I’m sure most women of childbearing age of heard of PCOS. There are sections on it in nearly all books relating to fertility, cycles, female reproductive lives, nfp, etc. If you have normal cycles, you skip over it because, frankly, it doesn’t apply to you. If however, you... Read more

This was originally posted for Ash Wednesday 2009. I am devoting less time to blogging today, as it is a fast day, so I wanted to re-post this, which was a sweet experience. Yesterday we received ashes on our heads in the conspicuous shape of a cross, in order to remind ourselves and the world, “remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return”. My husband and I were getting some sandwiches for dinner before driving home to Chicago... Read more

For prayer, fasting, and penance, otherwise known as Lent! Since tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, I thought I’d post a little about my plans for the season. I am a perfectionist. I have the tendency to think, “Ah, this year! This Lent is going to be the one that changes my life!” So then I make a long laundry list of spiritual goals to achieve. And by the second week of Lent I’ve failed at my goals and given up, or... Read more

I was in the car with Atticus on Friday and I had a sort of passing thought, I wonder what my top ten favorite songs are. I wonder if I could even pick just ten. Then, I thought, This would make a great blog challenge! So here it is: The Ultimate Playlist Blog Challenge. Scenario: You have crashed on a desert island (no, it isn’t The Island, otherwise you’d have more important things to worry about than a playlist). You... Read more

** 1 ** I seem to have some photos to share, so I’ll devote my 7QT to that this week! Our house offer was accepted and on Monday of this week we had our inspection. (no major issues – whew!) I won’t post all the photos I took of the house, because well, I’m obsessed. But here’s a few. ** 2 ** A few more — sorry, I am a woman in love. 🙂 ** 3 ** Ok, I’m done... Read more

Stewardship: What’s in your jar? Monday night Atticus and I went to Spirit and Truth. We were expecting a bible study on James 1, and Adoration. When we got there, we realized a parish pre-Lent retreat was going on, with a speaker, Benediction and a reception (free brownies and wine!) Excitement! We settled into a pew in the enormous, unheated church. The priest was in the middle of his talk, but it drew me in right away. He is a... Read more

I just wanted to say an enthusiastic thank you for all the prayers and comments on my post yesterday. I really appreciate all of you blog-o-sphere friends. 🙂 On a lighter note, this is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week. “Tertiary problem. Yeah, I’ve been reading the dictionary.” Enjoy! Read more

As I sit here, watching it snow…again, I feel the urge to write about something that’s been in my heart for quite some time. I’ve pushed the bounds of self-disclosure here before, and I’m certain that there are people who might read my little piece of the blog-o-sphere and think I share too much, but I take a confessional view toward life. My life has been changed, my faith strengthened, by hearing the stories of others struggling and how God... Read more
