 I Pledge Thee my Faith

If you are using traditional religious vows, you may finish your promises to one another by reciting such a line as: “In accordance to God’s holy ordinance, I pledge thee my faith.”

Marriage is a gift from God. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says that “Someone may overpower one alone, but two together can take a stand against him. And a threefold cord cannot quickly be torn apart.” This threefold cord of you, your spouse, and God, reminds couples to keep their Lord in their marriage for a strong, secure, unbreakable bond.

Studies continuously show that couples who have shared values and religious beliefs are more likely to enjoy marriage than those who do not. Research also suggests that religious couples have a stronger adherence to values that create happy relationships, such as staying faithful and adhering to a moral code.

What a great reminder to keep God in the marriage union and to strive to pursue your spirituality together as a couple.

Whether you choose to write your own vows or to go traditional, think long and hard about what you are promising each other. When you uphold your wedding vows you show your partner that you are willing to be faithful, brave in the face of unforeseen occurrences, and committed to staying together for better or worse.
