Acts 12: The Unstoppable Word of God

Acts 12: The Unstoppable Word of God May 23, 2011

The persecution of Christians had begun with Stephen in Jerusalem. Now it had spread to the apostles. James was put to death. Peter was arrested and imprisoned. The remaining believers in Jerusalem gathered behind locked doors to pray. The situation had become dire.

When the situation had turned to total dependence on God, God intervened. For Peter, God sent an angel to rescue him only hours before his planned public execution. For Herod, God caused a quick death. The end result? Verse 25 shares:

“But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.”

This was Luke’s short way of communicating that God’s Word is unstoppable.

Those who oppose the message of Jesus can persecute his followers and even offer themselves as gods worthy of worship, but nothing can stop the Lord’s message.

Just as the Word of God continued to spread then, the gospel message resonates now throughout the world, despite intense persecution, legal limitations, and restrictions of all kinds. No matter the obstacle, the message continues to spread. Why?

The unstoppable Word of God.

Rather than oppose it, let us remember it, read it, share it, and live it.

UPDATE: Last Friday was post #100, meaning I have now handwritten over 100 chapters of the New Testament! Thank you to all who have read and shared these posts over the past five months. Please continue to pray and support this effort as I press forward to complete the New Testament by the end of the year.

To be clear, I have been writing faster than I have been blogging. I blog on only one chapter per weekday, but am several chapters ahead in terms of writing. God willing, I hope to finish a couple of months early, take a break for the Christmas holiday, and pray about what’s next. Thanks again for your support!
