Hebrews 7: Jesus Meets Our Need

Hebrews 7: Jesus Meets Our Need October 24, 2011

26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.” -Hebrews 7:26-28

Only a perfect God can meet our needs perfectly. Jesus is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Only he can forgive our sins and present us as holy before God the Father.

And it’s a good thing he can! In our human frailty, we are imperfect and unable to present ourselves before God without sin. We are created in God’s image as “good” and are loved by our Creator, yet we each fail miserably at living God’s way in this life. Without Jesus, we would be doomed. With Jesus, we can spend eternity with God in heaven.

People tend to take one of two extremes in this area. Some see themselves as sinners and unworthy of God’s love. As a result, they live a depressed lifestyle. Others turn to pride, seeing themselves as not only chosen but better than others. Yet God desires to present us as holy while calling us to live with humility. We must pursue both.

Jesus meets our need.
