1 Peter 4: Living for God

^“1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. ² As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.” -1 Peter 4:1-2

It’s easy to choose our own way; it’s much more difficult to choose God’s will. Even after becoming a follower of Christ, the temptation is to take the way that is easiest or personally the most fulfilling.

Yet those who follow Jesus have been called to a different way of living–living for God. As Peter wrote, we do not live the rest of our earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. Instead of asking, “What’s in it for me?” we ask, “What does God want?”

This is in many ways the mark of one who follows Christ. If a person lives for God’s will, we can confidently state he or she is a true disciple. Personally, my goal is that others would have no doubt regarding who I follow. I seek to reflect God’s will as much as possible in my daily life. Our goal in even the most mundane of daily tasks is to simply yet profoundly ask, “Is this an action that reflects the will of God?”
