Genesis 6: Finding Favor with God

Genesis 6: Finding Favor with God

5 The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. -Genesis 6:5-8

Genesis 6 serves as the account that switches from the history of creation and Adam and Eve to Noah and the world’s recreation. What began in a garden with Adam naming animals was about to switch to Noah in a boat full of animals. The difference? Once again, it was sin.

Sin separated Adam and Eve from God, resulting in judgment. Sin here resulted in global judgment.

Another key difference was that Noah found favor with God. His life stood out to God in some special ways. We aren’t given details, but we are told he was different. His life stands as an example to us. We are called to live differently from the world around us. Our goal is not the favor of our peers, but the favor of God.
