Genesis 25: Answered Prayer

Genesis 25: Answered Prayer February 3, 2012

Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.” -Genesis 25:21

“Like father, like son.” This saying began to play out in Isaac’s life in a way he did not desire. Just as Abraham and his wife could not have children, we read that Isaac and his wife could not have a child. Later in the chapter we discover he was in his late 50s when he was praying for a child.

God answered his prayers with a double blessing. Instead of one child, God gave him two sons! These two babies would become the focus of the next section of Genesis, but at this point, they were seen by Isaac as an answered prayer.

We don’t understand all of God’s ways, but we do see that God answers prayer. Let us be mindful that he is listening and may have an unexpected answer on the way for us today.
