“23 During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.” -Exodus 2:23-25
For 400 years, the people of Israel had lived as slaves. They knew no other life. Yet they continued to cry out to God. These verses describe their prayers as groans and cries. They desperately craved freedom from God.
Looking back, we know God answered their prayer. Yet looking at out lives today, it’s hard to look forward with faith that God would provide. Sometimes his answers take hundreds of years. At other times, his response arrives in a moment.
Either way, our calling is the same. When in need, we cry out to God. He alone holds the answer. He alone can provide. Rather than try all other options and then cry out to God, let’s come to him first thing today, asking for his favor upon our lives and our efforts each moment of the day.
